Hello, this is Meat Face. At least, that’s what I named him after I brought him to life on Saturday.
Looks pretty disgusting, doesn’t it? But in reality, Meat Face is delicious. He is a cheese ball shaped like a face, then draped with prosciutto. The eyes are made of cheddar cheese, and I fashioned red pupils out of Srirachi sauce. But you could also use sliced green olives with pimientos in the center for the eyes.
I came across this recipe on Pinterest while looking for a Halloween-themed snack to take to a party on Saturday. I thought it might be hard to make, but it was surprisingly easy.
I used a favorite family recipe for the center — a bacon and chive cream cheese spread that always gets enthusiastic reviews. Here’s a link to that recipe. I think I’ve shared it before, but it bears repeating.
After making the cheese spread, I chilled it for over an hour to firm it up. Then, I dumped it in a pile on the serving tray and smoothed it into an oval shape, like a face with no features. Then, using a teaspoon, I carved out eye sockets and a mouth. I deposited the cheese spread from the eye sockets and the mouth where the nose would go, then went back and shaped it into a more nose-like shape. It doesn’t have to look perfect because when you lay the prosciutto over it, the features look smoother.
According to Pinterest, this can also be made in the shape of a hand. But I think the face is creepier.
If you can bring yourself to eat it, you’ll enjoy it. After people at our party got past the bizarre exterior, they ate more than half of the face.
That sounds so wrong.
