We first learned that Marco & Luca dumpling shop was putting in a location at the Roanoke City Market Building in April, and at that time the target opening date was within about a month.
Fast forward more than six months and people are still eagerly awaiting the opening of this little dumpling and noodle shop, which also has two locations in Charlottesville and one in Blacksburg.
But do not fret, Marco & Luca is still coming. I recently emailed Michelle Dykstra, manager of the market building, and this was her reply:
“As far as I know the hold up has been permitting for Marco and Luca – there were some logistical issues that had to be figured out up front in order to get health department approval to proceed with the kitchen construction, and as is usually the case it took a while to get all of the involved parties on the same page and to get everything approved. Once the kitchen design was approved by all parties, then we had to proceed with construction. The last and final step is getting the hoods installed and connected, and that’s the step we’re on now!
I hope they will be up and running in the next few weeks.”
Hopefully, by the time Dickens of a Christmas rolls around, there’ll be hot buns, dumplings, noodles, and sweet and sour soup to warm our bellies.
Here’s the original post about Marco & Luca, which contains more general information about the restaurant.
