Do you like biscuits? Who doesn't!?
Some would say that if you don't like biscuits, you just aren't a true Southerner.
We had biscuits at just about every supper at my grandmother's house. Great Uncle Bill called them "catheads" and chose to have another cathead with gravy while the rest of us were having dessert.
Mom always made fabulous biscuits from scratch, but this past weekend when I visited her, I found her pulling a bag of frozen biscuits from the freezer and putting them in her convection oven.
What in the name of catheads is going on??
Well, once you try those frozen biscuits, you might find that they are far superior to the canned kind and almost as good as homemade.
Both Pillsbury and White Lily brands make a good frozen biscuit. And right now, you can win a basket of White Lily products if you go to their Web site and enter to win a contest.
All you have to do is answer their question: What is your favorite biscuit topping?
Seems easy enough, but for me, it's kind of hard to choose. Sometimes it's apple butter, sometimes butter and honey, sometimes bacon, egg and cheese, sometimes just a nice, fat slice of summer tomato.
As a true biscuit lover, I could eat them straight from the baking sheet.

DebbieI love biscuits. My maternal grandma was famous in our family for her biscuits. She always cooked them in an well oiled cast iron skillet, so they were crispy on the bottom, but soft as velvet on the inside. Family breakfasts at her house always consisted of her biscuits and sausage gravy. I like the frozen Pillsbury ones, I haven't tried the Martha White's. I'll def register though.

LoriFavorite biscuit topping? Easy - gravy, either chipped beef or sausage. While she didn't make it every weekend, either gravy was in my mom's regular weekend breakfast repertoire. And when her grandson is old enough, she can fatten him up on the same treats his mama loves!

KimYUMMY!! There is nothing better than a fresh biscuit on a lazy weekend morning. Slightly crisp on the bottom with melted butter running off the edges is a heavenly sight! My husband the Yankee does not like biscuits so Mom always makes sure he has toast. Had I known before we got married that he didn't like biscuits it might have been a deal-breaker! Just kidding, I love him despite his anti-biscuit stance!

Sandy NairOOPS! I should have hidden the bag... Actually, I still make them from scratch but these are handy in a pinch or when you just want a couple and don't want to fire up the big oven.

KathyAnother Mom says: You bet, Lori! He will be beggin' for Granny's gravies and biscuits! And you know Poppa will have to have honey for him, too! I can see his little lips smackin' and grinnin' and those little legs kickin' with excitement! Can't wait!

DebbieSince reading this story during my lunch hour, I have been craving biscuits. I'll be heading to the store for some buttermilk. Aside from gravy, my favorite topping is ham. Country or city.:-)

ThomMy favorite topping for biscuits? Split them open and lay them side by side. Add 2-3 scrambled eggs, creamy buttery grits, some chopped up sausage and a little gravy. If I'm in a rush, some local honey on the split open biscuit.

DennisI LOVE home made biscuits! My wife makes the BEST! She does use Bisquick, but that's still home made, just w/ a shortcut. In my opinion anyway. Add country ham, gravy, bacon, sausage, home grown tomato, melted cheese, butter, apple butter & peanut butter, the list just goes on. Put just about anything on them and they are wonderful! I just found out that there is a restaurant in Roanoke that has everything home made except for the biscuits, which are frozen. I won't post the name, but the biscuits were just fine w/ sausage gravy! Here's another opinion; "canned biscuits" are not biscuits at all, I don't care what the P. Doughboy says!

Lindsey : →http://blogs.roanoke.com/fridgemagnet/Man alive, this discussion is making me HUNGRY. Dennis, there is nothing wrong with a biscuit mix. I've used a mix from Sam's Club (I think it's Krusteaz?) that produces flaky, buttery, tender biscuits. Yum. I think we've all agreed that you can top biscuits with 101 different treats. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pork chops, tomatoes, butter and jelly, apple butter, honey, sausage gravy, red eye gravy, country ham (ooooh, yum) and even hash browns. And only Tudor's Biscuit World can rock the hash browns with egg, bacon and cheese. They could be the best in Roanoke.

LizYikes! I'm out of my element here but you're making me hungry. I'm originally from Brooklyn and lived in San Francisco for years but only arrived in Roanoke a year ago. I love biscuits but have never made them. I think I'm heading to Tudor's Biscuit World.

RebeccaI'm one that thinks biscuit mix is a poor substitute for the real thing. However, I just recently tried a mix that I've only seen at Sam's. I actually think it may be Pillsbury? It's very similar to a Hardee's biscuit. My husband loves real maple syrup on his hot biscuits in addition to the usual toppings.
