Well, what do you know?
I post something about Ukrop's still having a squishy opening date and I get a press release declaring that Ukrop's Grand Opening will take place next Wednesday, June 27. So I guess that false date that was circulating may not be the same date.
The new store is set to open at 7 a.m. that morning, and I'll bet it will be jam-packed. In fact, it will probably be packed for the next month or two.
Here's an excerpt from the release. Some of it is a repeat of what we've already reported, but I figured it would still interest you guys:

"Ukrop's newest location will employ approximately 170 associates, the term Ukrop's uses to refer to all of its employees.
'We are thrilled about the number of Roanoke area residents who want to work at Ukrop's,' said Jason Woodcock, General Manager of Ukrop's Ivy Market. 'Our Human Resources staff has been hard at work hiring and training our associates and we are ready to offer our customers the true Ukrop's experience the moment they step into our store.'
The new store includes many of Ukrop's signature offerings, such as:
Thousands of items at Consistent Low Prices throughout the store
200-seat café featuring two stories, outdoor seating and free wireless Internet access
Starbucks, featuring coffee and pastries
Full-service deli and kitchen offerings, including fried chicken, rotisserie chicken, pizza, panini sandwiches, chef specials, party trays, hot foods, hot soup, specialty cheese, and meats (including Boar's Head products)
Ukrop's Bakery featuring decorated cakes, freshly baked bread, desserts, breakfast pastries, bagels, donuts, and muffins. Also, the department will feature Ukrop's line of All Natural Bakery products.
Expanded natural and organic food section, including grocery, produce, frozen food and dairy, as well as bulk items
Fresh fruits and vegetables, including a wide selection of organic and local produce items
Full-service meat and seafood department, featuring Ukrop's All Natural Beef, Pork, Chicken and Shrimp, free of added hormones and antibiotics, as well as fresh seafood from Virginia and around the world
Salad bar
Sushi (prepared on-site each day)
Fresh flower market."

So there you go. If you really were holding your breath for the chicken salad, you don't have long to wait.
