Sick food is boring
In case you were wondering if I have fallen off the face of the Earth, I have not. I am, however, personally responsible for killing several trees because of the amount of Kleenex I have burned through in the past two days at home with a nasty cold.
I haven't had a cold like this in years. Something tells me the frigid, torrential downpours on Ocracoke Island this past weekend and my friend's wedding ON the beach IN the cold drizzle have something to do with this particular illness rocketing past basic crud into out-of-this-world crud. But I'm happy she's happy.
I am not too happy, however, about the quality of my eating these past two days. If I have to ingest one more cup of tea or bowl of ramen noodle soup, I may go insane. This is coming from someone who loves tea and soup. But not being able to make a delicious, homemade pot of soup makes a big difference.
This afternoon, if I can muster enough motivation, I may run to the grocery store and pick up enough ingredients to try out a butternut squash soup recipe that's running with my column tomorrow. And I'll try to check back in later today or tomorrow morning with those extra winter squash recipes I promised.
If you see me in the store today, run...do not walk...away from me as fast as you can.
If you've got a tried and true recipe to combat the winter crud, I'm listening!

RichWhen I'm sick, I always down cans of Chicken Noodle soup. But without water added to the pot, and throw in 1/4 cup of Texas Pete.
Does wonders for congestion.
Don't forget the hot toddies either.
Hope you feel better.

HenryChicken noodle soup with hot peppers and fresh garlic added. Garlic must be fresh. Cream of Garlic soup helps as well. Nobody wants to be around you anyway.
Push down some Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc pills along with that. They will cut the cold time. Spend active time outdoors as well. Sweat out that cold. A good dose of Sudafed with all that garlic will keep sinus infections at bay.
Mix up some frozen lemonade. Pour in a glass, squeeze in half a lemon and pour in as much bourbon as you can stand. That will keep the night coughs at bay.

Lindsey : →http://blogs.roanoke.com/fridgemagnet/Henry, you've always got an answer. And it usually involves hot peppers.

marionNo, not canned chicken soup for a bad cold...A little EVOO, soften sliced carrots, celery and onion while, in separate pot, you simmer chopped fresh chicken breast until just done...add to veggie pot with lots of chicken broth. Bring to boil, add fave kind of noodle, cook til noodles are just done. Bit of salt & pepper, and you have the cold-healing chicken soup Mama used to make.

MikeIt must be going around. As I sit here and type I'm sipping on a big bowel of tomato soup. That and chicken noodle soup works for me. Don't forget a good douse of Night Quil. This works for me when I have a cold. Normaly knocks it out in a few days.
