The Mix One 6

mix16.JPG

I'm a little behind on this, but yes, The Mix One 6 in the former Dolce location on Campbell Avenue is open and serving a $6 lunch buffet. According to the sign in front of the rather nondescript-looking building yesterday, the buffet included beef stew, green beans, rice, garlic bread and dessert.

Anyone tried it out yet? Do tell.

The word on the street is that the Healthy Treats Bakery & Café at 106 Market St. in Roanoke (formerly Quiznos) is supposed to be opening any day now, if it hasn't already. And the former Green Dolphin Grille is set to become Alejandros Mexican Grill in the near future, according to business reporter Jenny Kincaid Boone. The owner of that spot says she will serve casual Mexican fare, chips with various salsas for dipping and alcohol.

Man, I hope that place doesn't turn out to be just like every other Mexican restaurant in town. I'm really craving something new on the Mexican food scene. I love that fare so much. It would be exciting to see a really unique menu at Alejandros.

Stay tuned.

I had lunch at Mix One 6 today and it made a good first impression. There was a long line for the buffett, which featured a salad bar, fried chicken and green bean casserole. The chicken was okay, not as crisp as I like and a little greasy for my taste, but the green bean casserole was very tasty in that made-using-a-canned-soup-with-French's-onions-Thanksgiving-with-the-family kind of way. They also had rather unusual, flaky, puff-pastry-like breadsticks which I liked, despite the fact they fall into little pieces when you bite into them.
The place was packed, but the service was very good and for $8 with a beverage, it's a pretty good deal for lunch. I will try them again and see what else they have.

I LOVE Mexican, too! I think that the margaritas at Abuelo's would be HARD to beat! And the food as well, they have really become my favorite Mexican place in the valley. But if the new place has some different fare, that would be excellent!

I agree with Dennis, those margaritas at Abuelos are FANTASTIC! I love the berry swirl one that comes in the tall skinny glass.

Why is it the mexican joints around here all serve sweet enchilada sauce? I don't care for it, nor do I know many people who do. It has an overbearing cinnamon taste to it. I'm not from here, and NEVER had such 'different' sauce before moving here.

PS- Lindsey...you called me Ron in your wings parte deux!

Ah, crap, Rich! I'm sorry! It should be fixed now.
