Glenvar hires girls basketball, softball and wrestling coaches
Glenvar High School has hired three new head coaches in its athletic program including Alan Bayse as its softball coach.
The Highlanders also hired Teddy Moberg as the girls basketball head coach and hired Zack Leonard as the head wrestling coach.
Bayse, a former women’s softball head coach at Roanoke College, replaces Mike East at Glenvar. East resigned this summer after just one season on the job, Glenvar athletic director Richard McElwee said Friday.
Bayse compiled a 289-100 overall record at Roanoke, leading the Maroons to six NCAA Division III tournaments before the school did not retain him following the 2005 season. He spent several seasons as a softball volunteer assistant at Virginia Tech.
Moberg was promoted to the girls basketball head coaching position after spending three years as an assistant under Nick Stewart.
Stewart resigned this summer and moved to Florida for family reasons, but he subsequently landed a position as a girls basketball head coach, McElwee said.
Leonard was hired as Glenvar’s wrestling coach to replace Cecil Coleman, who spent one year on the job. Leonard is a Patrick Henry graduate who wrestled and played football for the Patriots. He is a varsity football assistant for the Highlanders.
