INTRODUCING THE HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS BLOG

The Roanoke Times high school sports blog is off and running.

Most of the posts will be done by me, Robert Anderson. I’ve been the prep sports editor at the paper since 2001. Other staff writers who cover high school events also will contribute to the blog occasionally.

What can you expect to find here?

First, we want to make this the place to go when you’re looking for the latest high school sports news in Timesland. That’s year-round, because guess what? There really is no offseason.

Coaching changes, recruiting, scheduling news, VHSL moves, summer all-star games…they all contribute to making high school sports coverage a 12-month per year beat.

So I’ll try to post often and keep things current.

Also, we want to make this blog a forum for readers to express their opinions. Got a thought on the new VHSL six-classification system? Got a complaint about an all-district team. Let us and everyone else hear about it.

Keep it clean though. Use some civility.

We’ll also use this blog as a one-stop spot for some of the information that appears in the paper or has been posted on the pressbox blog. District tournament schedules, standings, statistics, statewide polls and scores, football playoff points…we’ll provide a quick link to those inside related material.

I’d like to use this blog to post content that doesn’t appear in the newspaper. For instance, some items that appear in print in a prep notebook often can be posted on the blog earlier in the week or exclusively.

I’m starting with a quick breakdown of five of tonight’s area high school games.

As always, continue to follow us on Twitter at twitter.com/timesland. We’ll tweet scores from tonight’s prep football games as we receive then.

Love the article on Culicerto. Dunnaville is such a dynamic player on offense but I think he is somewhat limited in the Wing-T. If Northside would ever switch to the spread with Dunnaville and the speed they have he would make some headlines for sure.

The Roanoke times continued all season to have a record of not even mentioning the Stats of the William Fleming Volleyball team players.

However other team who lost games had their stats listed. Why this this happen time after time. Today was senior night–again no recognition at all.

I might as well cancel the subscription I just renewed, because nothing good will come out in this paper about all the good things going on at Wm Fleming H.S.

      Debra:

You need to speak with your head coach. Each home team is responsible for getting us the information on their games. If we do not get a call from the team, we have no way of obtaining the information. This is the same in every sport. In 95 percent of the cases when a game is played and the information does not get into the newspaper or on line, it is because no one called us. If there is another problem causing this particular situation, then it needs to be addressed further and I will be happy to discuss it with your coach and administration.

    Sorry Robert,

The Orrie has had to take his show on the road.Asheville N.C during the work week ,thus becomong the Week-end warrior in the Noke. Saw a former CHS standout Joel Donnelly this past week end and he wanted the Orrie to give you a shout out from him .
