Snow won’t stop Salem girls from playing
Good morning from Richmond.
Heavy snow has been falling in the city. The roads are slick and dangerous. But that is not stopping the VHSL state basketball tournament.
Salem’s girls are five minutes from tipping off against Loudoun County in a Group AA Division 4 semifinal with the winner earning a berth against Courtland in Saturday’s championship game.
The 11 a.m. crowd pretty much consists of parents and crickets. All the empty space in VCU’s Siegel Center should provide excellent acoustics for Salem’s pep band, which rocked the place last night.
Hopefully, no technical foul for Salem. The girls are wearing white uniforms, unlike the boys who were assessed a ‘T’ before Tuesday night’s semifinals for wearing gray uniforms as the designated home team, a violation of national federation rules.
Salem’s boys were outstanding last night defeating Potomac Falls 76-69. The Spartans shot better than 50 percent from the field for the second straight game. Salem awaits the winner of today’s game between Grafton and E.C. Glass.

Let’s go Spartans!!
