My apologies for getting this online so late, but our blog server was down all night. Here are my notes from last night's show, real-time. Keep reading to see who made it. Also, please comment on your favorites or anything that may have surprised you. Frankly, I was only surprised by one decision. But I was really surprised by it.
Show just started.
They keep saying the talent is the best it's ever been. Do y'all agree? I'm not really seeing that, but whatever.
Right off the bat there's a host of rejections in the yellow room. Ronald somebody. Nina Shaw. Faces I don't even recognize. They're blowing through them fast.
Now it's Carly Smithson's turn. She'll definitely be the first to make it. If she doesn't, I might quit watching. OK, maybe not. Carly is crying and Paula is yammering on and on and on. Hooray for Simon for telling Paula to shut up already and hand the girl her fate.
Carly's in. She's going to be a crowd favorite. The way the other competitors embraced her when she stepped off the elevator is an indicator of that.
Next up ... David Cook. His name is so blase that I feel like I have to describe him every time. He's the rocker-ish guy who lacks the BA (bad-ass) factor and has bad hair. I'm digging his pink tie, though. Is Paula the designated deliverer of "yesses" tonight? David's in.
OK, now here comes a rocker who oozes the BA factor. Amanda Overmyer. She rocked a Doors song during Hollywood week. Paula is talking .... must be a, yep, she's in.
Sidenote: I have a feeling the fact we haven't seen Adelee at all means she isn't going to make it.
All the folks getting booted are people we haven't seen in performance mode.
Obviously David Archuletta is going to make it. He's the favorite of Simon, Paula and Randy. Duh. Move on...
Here comes Kristy Lee Cook. I already read on the spoiler that she makes it through, but I fear she'll need to really work hard. "Amazing Grace" won't win the competition for her.
I'm starting to become a fan of Brooke White. Maybe it's her purity. She's kinda breaking up, though, emotionally. There seem to be a lot more emotional breakdowns this season. Brooke is now seated in the yellow room, crying. Hold yourself together, girl. You're in.
Danny Noriega is in.
Another quick montage, this time yeses. In, Jason Castro. In, Alexandra Bachelier. WHO? I'm afraid I don't recognize these folks. Isn't this to their disadvantage moving forward? They don't even have a fan base yet.
Moving on, here comes Remiele Malubay, small girl big voice. Paula's talking ... and it's of course a yes.
So far this show has been very predictable. No real surprises. Only a few questions, like who the heck is Jason Castro and Alexandra ???
A flurry of no's sends Shaun Barrows, Lorena Pinot, country boy Drew Poppelreiter (who said it was OK, at least he wouldn't miss hunting season) and Natasha Blach packing.
Aussie Michael Johns is next ... he'll make it. Simon thought he had the best audition of the day. That would be like the star point guard not making the all-star team. (or something like that) and yes, it's a slam dunk for Michael.
Here comes Syesha Mercado ... so far one of my favorites. Always-clever Paula plays a game using Syesh's name. "How do you spell your name? There's a YES in your name." The rum must be kicking in for Paula.
Randy rocker guy is in. There's always a rocker guy. Think Daughtry.
Side note: I am a little nervous about Josiah.
A slew of yeses ... Garret Haley, Kady Malloy, Chikezie Eze, Amy Davis, Alaina Whitaker and Jason Yeager. Of all those, I only remember Chikezie Eze and only because Randy loved his name. Amy Davis is always seen sitting next to Josiah. I didn't know if she was a friend or a contestant.
Ahh, Asia'H Epperson ... another crowd favorite. I'm betting yes. Yes! Yes!
David Hernandez ... the one they all liked, but I thought he could get boring during the competition ... much like that R.J. Helton back in season one. David made it. Let's see if I'm right, though. Simon told David he wanted to nix him so he better work hard. Maybe Simon and I are the same page.
Here he comes .. Josiah Leming. I don't know about y'all but I want him to make it. He just needs to pull himself together.
WHAT?? No.....! That one kinda hurt in my gut. Consistency is key, though, and the kid made a bad choice. Poor guy. I didn't like that one at all. I was looking forward to watching him this season.
Two guys left. Kyle Ensley and Colton Berry, from Staunton. I'm sorry, but if that Kyle politican makes it, I'll be really annoyed. Besides, he'll be just fine on Broadway.
STAUNTON BOY IS IN! But Simon is certainly stealing the joy out of it for Colton. I'm stunned right now by Simon's speech to Kyle. What in the world? One minute he's chastising the kid on stage, then apologizing. Now he's telling him how voting him out was not his choice, shaking his hand, on and on. It's almost like Simon realized that Kyle's family is a huge donator to the show or something equivalent to that ... I don't know who his family is, but I'm just saying. The attitude majorly shifted.
The last two ladies are on their way up. JoAnne Borgella and Cardin McKinney. I'm watching the clips of their rehearsals and JoAnne blows Cardin away. She better take it. OH NO! My DVR recording ended!! Seriously??
I had to look up the winner between those two and, sigh of relief, it was JoAnne. I didn't get to see her reaction, though.
Not a disappointing show. Only one major surprise. And off we go to the good stuff.

Nona : →http://blogs.roanoke.com/thehappywag/Love, love, love Michael Johns. He is my pick to go all the way.
And I was glad they didn't put Kyle through, because he just would have been this season's dork that the judges would pick on, ala Sanjaya from last year and the kid that looked like Chicken Little from a couple of seasons ago. Kyle seems like a great kid and doesn't deserve national ridicule.

JenI am SO with you on your observations about last night's show. I am loving ole' Carly. She has a GREAT voice and I can't wait to hear more from her. I also think the Austrailian rocker dude is pretty brilliant. The Janis Joplin like girl stuns me every time she sings because it's so freaking amazing--and I have a semi-crush on the puritan girl that resembles Carly Simon with her sound--probably because I'm an easy listening junkie.
David Archuletta seems fine, but I'm not as overwhelmed with him as the judges are yet. And that nerdy Kyle guy? He was fine & all but he reminded me of the dud they carry through every season---the one that keeps getting voted through but you're TOTALLY ready for them to finally get voted off. I'm kind of glad he got the boot.
