L8r, stripper boy

David Hernandez said goodbye last night. I wasn't expecting it, frankly. He's much better, vocally, than Kristy Lee Cook. America loves her, though, apparently. His version of "I Saw Her Standing There" was cheesy at best, but it was no where near the slaughtered version of "Eight Days a Week" that Cook sang. Maybe reader Jen (too) is right on; she said maybe David got kicked off because of his now-tarnished image as a stripper. Who knows.

I just know that I can't stand the new big-box version "Idol." I mean, I was getting used to the product placement ... the Coca-Cola cups, the Ford intermissions ... but it's rising to a new level. Jim Carrey touting his movie? It's less a vehicle for talent, more a money-making machine like Wal-Mart.

Who's going next? Rant away!

Country-fried Cook and the fall of the golden boy

Here's a rundown of the six participants who performed during the last hour of the show. The boys had to leave at 9 to go home, get showered and ready for bed, so there are only a couple more quotes from them.

The first six and a couple of boys

Tonight, my cousins (I always want to call them my nephews because their mom, Leslie, is more like my sister) came over to give the boys' point of view of the performances. (A couple weeks ago, I got the girls' point of view from a 7- and 8-year-old. Trey and Shane are 11 and 9, respectively. I learned that boys and girls around that age are very different. In a good way.

OK, I'm going to put my thoughts into two entries instead of 10 or 12. Does that defeat the purpose of a blog? I don't know, maybe.

I'm going to print

Well, now that we're down to the final 12, the features editor at the paper has asked me to provide an Idol summary each week for the Friday Extra section. So, you guys comment away and I can add some of your remarks to the page. Should be fun!

My cousins are coming over Tuesday night to watch the show with me. I don't remember if you read the post about how they wanted to contribute the boys' point of view after the neighbor girls down the street came over and helped me recently. I'm gonna post their comments after the show, so keep an eye out. I know they'll have some interesting things to say, maybe even some things I can't post. :-)
