Quick thought on the judges
Have y'all noticed that the judges have been very contradictory this season?
Example: Telling Brooke that she should've used the band during her performance of Pat Benatar's "Love is a Battlefield" a few weeks ago. And then telling her last night that she shouldn't have used the band for "Every Breath You Take."
Example: Telling Chikezie last night that he's not original. What? Are you serious? For the past two weeks he infused bluegrass into his Beatles performances. How is that not original?
Example: Telling Michael Johns he needs to show them something a little different. But, when David Cook shows them his usual self, they praise him. On this particular matter, my thought is that Daughtry's fame surprised them. And they know David Cook will be the next Daughtry. So they want to make sure they sign David Cook since they missed the boat on Chris Daughtry, who placed fourth on "Idol" in 2006. He lost out to Taylor Hicks of all people. Yeah, I know, Taylor who?

GinaApparently your another one of those blind writers that doesn't know what your talking about. Taylor who? Apparently you didn't follow all of his sold out 100+ tour dates last year!
[March 26, 2008 10:20 AM]
WendyGina, you have a good point about sold-out tour dates. Thanks for shedding light on that. However, just last month Taylor was dropped from his label because of low record sales. So maybe I'm just half blind. :-)
[March 26, 2008 10:22 AM]
OH pleaseAll of Taylors shows were not sold out. In fact he had a hard time selling out alot of his shows
[March 26, 2008 11:02 AM]
JeannetteActually, Daughtry lost out to Katharine McPhee, as they were in the bottom two that week. Also, how do you know Hicks was dropped due to low record sales? I don't believe a reason for the parting has ever been stated. Are you privy to some info we don't have?
[March 26, 2008 11:21 AM]
annemore wrong information(please check facts)...Taylor & the record company have stated it was a mutual desision to part ways.
[March 26, 2008 11:28 AM]
anneChris Daughtry was voted of 4th . He lost to Eliott Yamin, Katharine McPhee AND Taylor Hicks. Why does everyone hold his loss against Taylor Hicks. Blame his fans, they didn't vote enough.

CarolleTo WENDY WHO?????? Taylor dominated Season 5. He was NEVER in the bottom 3. He was America's "Chosen One" as he stayed true to himself. ARISTA confirmed that it was a mutual decision for Taylor to leave as he wanted artistic freedom. Once again, staying true to himself. "Payola" was involved to get Daughtry's (Daughtry who) songs on the radio. So, Wendy Who, please get your facts straight.

CarrieMention Taylor Hicks in a blog and get lots of hits.
Isn't that what most failed journalists (and I use that term very loosely) do?
Just saying....

MartyWendy - record labels and artists parting ways these days is not unusual and says nothing about either side. But for the record, Taylor Hicks has sold over 700,000 copies of his CD, which if you know anything about the music biz, is hard to achieve these days in a dwindling CD sales market. Let me add this was achieved without the push of a single. It's quite incredible, actually. Show me another artist who can sell that many CDs without a radio hit! Hmmm.
Taylor Hicks is a blues and soul singer - hard core - not the little pop singer AI likes to grab onto to sing banal pop crap ala Jordin Sparks. He's far better off at another label, either major or indie, to get his own music out - not forced to sing insipid dreck from Diane Warren. Granted, it may not be as popular on the Top 40 charts as say country bumpkin Carrie U or pseudo rocker Chris D, but there is a market for serious blue-eyed soul musicians like Taylor - just as Marc Brussard.
So please, try to be less vintictive and more professional in your writings. So sad. Sigh...

JenWow! Last time I checked, I thought blogs were supposed to be used as a venue for writers to express opinions (yes..OPINIONS). Didn't know that saying one comment about Taylor Hicks meant you were going to be lambasted for days? I figured people had enough sense to know they're reading one person's perspective. Guess that takes insight...which some are lacking. Imagine that.
I love to read your stuff....it's awesome! It's your opinion. And I love the way you express it. So keep it up!

PhilCome on folks lighten up! One comment brings out this much grief. I think the Taylor comment was meant for the mainstream Idol fan. I consider myself in this category and I sure have not heard Hicks since in a long time.
[March 26, 2008 2:05 PM]
SarahJen, I second that! This is not a journalistic article for a printed paper or even a glossy mag. This is an opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs. You all need to stop hiding behind your computers and stop personally attacking someone. Jeesh, talk about cyber-bullying!
I doubt that Wendy is sitting at home thinking of how she can be "vindictive" to Mr. Hicks or to all of you for that matter. So please, step away from your computers, take a deep breath, get some air and chill out. After all, its just a show, this is just one person's blog and we'll all be ok.

Amy Hanek : →http://www.houseonthegladehill.blogspot.comPaula Abdul not only DIDN'T have anything constructive to say, but she was only finishing 3/4 of her sentences. She would begin with a traditional "Oh (fill in the blank) you are so talented" and go on to say what a star the idol wanta be was and then finish with ... well... nothing. Huh?
Randy and Simon HAVE gone back and forth. I feel like they are playing the warm and cold game. Ya know... like "warmer... warmer... colder... ice cold... warmer... red hot!" I think we could do a little better...

Not a Hicks fanI agree with you Phil. I wasn't a Taylor fan and was shocked that he won. For me, he was a "Taylor Who?" But that doesn't mean I went out and bought a McPhee or Daughtry album either. I wonder if Wendy would've gotten the same vitriol if she talked about Sanjaya!
[March 26, 2008 4:42 PM]
nolaTaylor WHO!!I am a TAYLOR WHO fan who downloaded his idol appearances. Every once in awhile I play them, and have to say, what a wonderful singer and ENTERTAINER he is! Then I watch idol 2008 and wonder where the entertainment value is in these new performers. Simons comment on a show was sometimes he forgets what a very good voice he has. So what does this tell you
[March 26, 2008 6:51 PM]
LindaExcellent post MARTY. We who are fans of Taylor are just really tired of the constant blogging of misinformation about him that seems to go on and on, and we would be amiss if we didn't post our thoughts when these errors pop up again and again. Taylor is a unique and gifted performer of blues/soul music, not the stuff that sells the CDs these days, but, he follows his own visions and his own muses and brings joy to everyone who is fortunate enough to see him in concert. On stage, he is incomparable. Hope you get the chance to see him for yourself this year.
[March 26, 2008 8:39 PM]
MelanieWendy, David Cook will not become the next Daughtry. He will surpass Daughtry (I hope). Daughtry is not original and plays off of other successful sounds of other rock bands. David Cook is much better than Daughtry IMO. By the way, I love Taylor Hicks and please do yourself a favor and go see him when he goes on tour again, cuz if it is anything like his first go around,he will impress you and you will see how misinformed you really are about Taylor.

SheilaThe whole season 5 was the most popular year ever, and the fans are still rabid aobut their favorites. As a Taylor fan, I just wonder why writers continue to put him down? He brought more fun to that show than ever, and could still come on there and steal the show from the ones on there now. Say what you want, but he will continue to be the most famous idol ever!
[March 27, 2008 2:02 AM]
mmd4thJust to voice my dissatisfaction in reading another sour comment about Taylor Hicks tacked onto the end of this blog. Taylor brought more fun, a great stage persona, a great bluesy voice, that sweet Elvis personality to his fans and the world...yet every blogger and so many cyber articles take great joy in cutting him down. Why is he singled out in this disparaging manner by so many writers who have never seen him perform???!!! I believe these writers would find out they are very poorly informed about the greatest of all the Idols.

CherylSeason Five will NEVER be matched or topped! That is just simple fact - Taylor Hicks made that season fun and I am glad he won! I don't down Daughtry I just didn't like his style of music. David Cook on the other hand is much more likeable and original. Not saying I would buy his music either, but I don't think there is a comparison between Cook and Daughtry as far as talent - Cook is more original. I too am sick of people bashing Taylor Hicks - he is a good guy who makes a LOT of people happy - I went to 4 shows and they were ALL SOLD OUT.

CarolleIncredible feeling and making my heart smile, to you folks making wonderful and true statements about our Taylor. My first comment when Idol is mentioned in my travels through life, I touch many people daily, is, "There will never be another Taylor." What a tribute, huh, this states it all. Idol reached it's peak, the top of the mountain, when our Taylor won. I feel a little shaky right now after reading comments of you who "get it."
