For whom should the bell toll tonight?

Tell us about it, blog readers. Who will sing their last song tonight?

Clearly from the comments on the performance blog posts, the preference is to say farewell to Jason Castro, who pretty much stunk up the joint last night. The Davids were both strong as usual, and Syesha may have won over some hearts with her emotional reaction after her second song.

Did I mention that Castro really blew it in a big, bad way?

I have liked that young man from the beginning, but what bugs me about his performance last night, other than it was dreadful, is the lack of effort.

I can respect it if he really doesn't care if he wins or not, but he should bring his best performance to the stage. Then if nobody digs it, he leaves the game knowing he did his best and was true to himself.

But I don't think that was the case last night. Where I could cut him slack in recent weeks for the theme being totally out of his element, he had literally thousands of choices this week, and he tanked it on two great songs. Sad.

So Carly Smithson was sitting behind the judges this week, and was forced to watch Jason Castro make a mess of the two songs he “sang”. Carly had to be thinking “I lost out to THIS guy???”

It was funny watching Carly boo Simon when Simon was talking.

Syesha had a good performance with Proud Mary, but was sharp and tinny on A Change is Gonna Come. Randy was right on with his criticisms of Syesha. Also, to be fair, Brooke needed to quit crying, and Syesha’s tears were tiresome as well.

David Cook, who should have really been in his element with the greatest 500 rock songs ever, really failed to show up. Hungry Like the Wolf? What was David thinking? What is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame thinking? Baba O’Reilly is a rock opus, it cannot be properly condensed to 90 seconds. The arrangement stunk. Bottom line, if that is the type of pap David Cook intends to try to sell as CDs in the future, count me out.

Look at this song list the contestants had to choose from:

Even taking the 7 Beatles songs out of the running (two weeks of those was plenty), surely D Cook could have found better songs to sing.

And speaking of this vast list musical beauty, could not Jason Castro find two (2) songs to which he knew all the words??? Karaoke Castro needs to go. If there is any justice in this popularity contest, Jason will go home. And skip the tour. And get a haircut.

Baby Elmo Archuletta crooned out his two theme park solos, and will continue on through to his date in the finals on the texting fingers of the tweeners.

I was really looking forward to Rock and Roll week. On the whole, what a disappointment.

I was also surprised DC didn't come out swinging and hitting homeruns. He only made it to base.

Syesha could do a lot more with her performances but has come a long way. I really thought she would be gone weeks ago.

I'm not gonna touch the whole David A. thing. He is talented and a good performer but you either love him or hate him. My heart directs me to choose the latter.

I can only cross all of my fingers and toes in hope of it being Jason's last night.

Adios gato!

Kennedy, you are so ON with that "Baby Elmo Archuletta" comment!

I liked him at first, and now he's just vanilla to me. Too polished and predictable. But I can't deny he's talented. And he picked the right songs last night.

He's got the best control of his voice out of them all. And he can actually hit different notes when he sings. Unlike Syesha, who I think totally fakes her way through riffs.

David A. is totally the next generation of Michael Buble.
