My turn! Meet your guest blogger

Hello Idol fans!

nona_100x143.jpg

I am Nona Nelson, your humble guest blogger while Wendy wanders Europe. Our Ms. Maxey will return next week so, until then, I am honored to be your host here on Idol Times.

My only qualification for writing about “American Idol” is that I watch it. Like millions of other Americans, I tune in each week and see contestants struggle to pull a rabbit out of their musical hats so they can live to sing another week.

And each week, one more hopeful has his or her dreams crushed in the cold light of harsh reality television. We feel sad for a moment, but we Americans are a competitive bunch, goody bye, good luck, and its on to the next round.

We are now down to the Top Four (phrase chosen so as not raise the ire of the terribly litigious NCAA) and I do believe last week that host Ryan Seacrest said the quartet would be picking songs from artist members the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

That should provide a wide range of choices, maybe too wide, for each potential Idol to pick two good songs.

For an interesting look into the process for contestant song choices, click here.

Post a comment and let me know how you think this will play out. Who will sing their way into the next round on Tuesday, and who will sing through their tears on the results show on Wednesday?

Nona - Glad you are here!

I HOPE Jason goes home - but you all know how I feel about him. I THINK Syesha had better bring it this week if she hopes to stay. DC should fair pretty well and even David A. should find something squeaky and clean to sing.

It's REALLY gonna get interesting now!

This year's American Idol does give me pause on whether America is really choosing the winner. I had faint questionings in my mind when Simon's pick has consistently won, let's see, there's Kelly, Reuben, Fantasia, Carrie, and yes even "Soul Patrol". Based on that, let's see, "Uh the Winner is David Cook" fanfare, confetti, yada, yada, yada, yada...
