'I don't want to miss' David Cook's victory

"Longer" by Dan Fogelberg ... what were the producers thinking? Has David A. even heard of Dan Fogelberg??? I barely know this song and I'm almost 20 years older than him. The kid is not 95 years old.

Observance: Justin Guarini, who was in the audience, looked kind of old.

The producers chose a Rihanna song for newly sassy Syesha. She seemed a little uncomfortable with it, but I think she pulled it off OK. It wasn't any worse than David Cook's Switchfoot song or David Archuleta's rendition of "With You." Just my two cents.

Aerosmith's "I Don't Want Miss A Thing" ... very fitting for David Cook. I love the song, personally. Frankly, this one was my favorite of the night. It moved me to want to get out of my seat, and not to turn the channel. That's talent in my opinion. Apparently by the applause (and Paula's standing O), it was the crowd's favorite, too. Again, Randy, what's with your whole "very predictable" comment?? You never say that to Archuleta. You only say "you can sing the phone book." I think the phone book would be very boring.

I'm with Simon ... David Cook wins the night. And hopefully the competition.

Aren't y'all glad I'm back?? :-)

David Cook completely crushed The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, and demonstrated that when he wins this competition, no one will suspect the producers chose him as the winner no matter the actual vote total. I love Roberta Flack (true story: my wife and I shared a breakfast with Roberta Flack some years ago during a blizzard in Colorado, but I digress), and I loved Cook’s performance of The First Time nearly as well. The Switchfoot performance was pitchy. Then, ugh, another version of I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing on AI. The AI producers must have paid a blanket license fee to Diane Warren for that song. D Cook still made that tune the best of round three despite some pitchiness and a weak performance from the band.

Syesha, knowing she will not progress past this week, chose to audition for Broadway with her cabaret rendition of Fever. It was hard to hear her sing Fever while I was focused on the fact that she was dancing with her sel-helf. Dang, Simon just called it cabaret. I typed cabaret first. Syesha was off tune, off beat, and out of breath on the third song. Good job getting to the top three Syesha; enjoy the tour.

Baby Elmo Archuletta did a Baby Elmo-ish performance of Paula’s choice And So It Goes. The absence of Daddy Elmo this week really hurt Baby David’s song choice and arrangements, especially on Longer. I confess that I like Fogelberg’s sappy love song (ah, high school slow dances), but I will not be downloading Baby Elmo’s version. His personal song choice was completely wrong for him, it showed his limits as a performer; he also screwed up the lyrics. Nevertheless, I’m sure he is a shoe-in for the finals.

Last couple of things, welcome back Wendy, and Sally, good point about Jordin Sparks’ age and treatment last year.

David A is the most boring singer on the planet. I want to fast forward every time he comes on. Syesha should go to Broadway. I like her. I think she's outstanding. David Cook is great....doesn't sing my kind of music, but he's still the clear winner.

I will be glad when David A finally loses and takes his sheepish grin back to Utah with his bully of a father. Sorry for the bitterness, but I'm tired of this boring show and I want to quit watching but I've invested too much time so this is going to have to be my outlet for the next two weeks. (BTW, That was probably the longest sentence I've written in my life).

David Cook ROCKS! I sure hope he wins. He is one talented singer, songwriter. He's just got the "it" factor. He'll be a star whether he wins idol or not, but I hope America shows they have brains and can see the real talent in this competition. And Yes, I'm glad you are back!!!

Wendy - so glad you're back, but I did have fun!

DC is the only really original, talented performer left up there and lets face it, the cutest!

Welcome back! I totally agree that the Dan Fogelberg song was a poor choice by the producers. That is so totally easy for DA.

I have to say that I agreed with Simon when he said DC did a good job with his song. It was the first time, really, that I remember seeing him belt out a slowish song and he really did it well. That was what I didn't think DC could do ... sing slow.

I still don't think Syesha has the presence or the voice to make it big time, but she has seemed to come alive in these last few weeks. About time!

I don’t think AI has had a shocking result night yet this season, the closest being Michael Johns’ surprisingly premature exit. Jason Castro’s too-lengthy run on the show may be shocking, but it was not a shocking result. Will there be a shocking result tonight?

I believe David Cook is firmly ensconced in the finals, but I raise the possibility that David Archuletta might not make the finals, and in my opinion, that result would be a shocker. For the following reasons, Baby Elmo could – might – possibly be beaten out for the final spot by Syesha Mercado.

1. David A sang first in order, which is usually a vote hindrance.

2. David A’s personal song choice absolutely revealed him to be a one trick pony as a performer at this stage of his career. Baby David is not hip or even pop – he is only a balladeer, albeit a good balladeer.

3. Backlash against David A’s dad. This year especially, I think the contestant’s family members have had the power to hurt the contestants. We did not have a Sweet Ol Granny Bice this year; we had the stage father from hell backstage and a freakishly tattooed spouse in the audience. I believe the Archuletta family stories this week will impact Baby David’s vote totals negatively, I’m just not sure how much.

I am not changing my prediction of a David v. David final. However, this is the last night I believe a shocking result show is possible for this season.

I have to say I thought David A. did a very nice job with his song. As for the song itself, I am proud to say I have been a Dan Fogelberg fan for many years. I am not sure if Simon ever heard of him or of any of his music, but either way, I think Dan's music is beautiful, spirtual, and many songs go along with how many of us have led our lives. No matter what the Judges say, it was up to the fans who voted. Nice Job David A.

All you can say concerning picking Longer for a difficult song out of Dan Fogelberg's music, by American Idol's producers, is they are way overpaid. There hasn't been nor will there be an "American Idol" to ever come out of the program that is capable of accomplishing the catalogue of Dan Fogelberg. The Artist is one of America's very best in our history, and the fact kids today don't make their own music, and have to steal it from records and cut and paste the music to vulgar language or trash talking others just proves the point, there is no musical artistry in this generation, and the sooner they are over the hill and forgotten about, the better the world will be. Listen to Nether Lands the song from Dan Fogelberg, and consider yourselves lucky none of these lightweights had to try to pull off actual singing like a Dan Fogelberg.
