Judges choices and hometown visits

Paula Abdul chose Billy Joel's "And So It Goes " for David Archuleta. I have been gone for two weeks and am now reminded as I listen to David sing that I didn't miss him one bit. He's got a good voice, but still ... snoozeville. (Thanks for the sappy song choice, Paula.) Randy just said David can sing anything, but what else has he sang to prove this? He sings the same slow stuff over and over and over. I agree with Simon that there were "no surprises" and it was a "bit predictable."

Randy chose "If I Ain't Got You" by Alicia Keys for Syesha. I think it's a good choice for her. It takes her away from the usual Whitney-ish songs she clings to and gives her an update. I'm impressed with Syesha tonight; she felt it and portrayed a confidence I haven't really seen

Observance: We've all been assuming that David A. is the frontrunner this season. But, what if ... just what if, he goes home? I think there's a chance. Things seem a bit shifted.

Simon chose "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack for David Cook. Interesting choice. Talk about out of the box. He put his usual modern rock spin on the song but kept it delicate, which I think is important. I disagreed with Randy when he said we needed more rock out of David tonight. We've seen him rock and know he can do it. It's nice to see the contestants step out of their comfort zones from time to time. Unlike someone else we know.

Final thought on judges' choices: Good job, Simon. This is why you're a master in the biz. I think David Cook clearly swept that one. And nice touch on the "happy belated Mother's Day" comment.

Yay! You're back! I agree that Simon was right on in the judging last night, which I think he is most of the time. David Cook is awesome!!! I would pay to attend one of his concerts.
