End of the road for...

Jason Castro.

I'm okay with that. Funny guy, nice kid. This was just not his venue.

As Wendy said so eloquently a few weeks ago: See ya at FloydFest, Jason.

Notes on the results show

The Davids are safe. Anyone shocked? I didn't think so.

Who stole half of Paula's dress?

Is anyone digging the Q & A thing? It's kind of creeping me out, actually.

Maroon 5. Love those guys. Have all their CDs. Wish I could make a trip to Virginia Beach for the concert.

Bo Bice sounded much better than his post-Idol CD. Back to the Southern rock roots.

Oh, the ensemble version of Steeler's Wheel's "Reeling in the Years":

Worst. Group Sing. Ever. Period.

Discuss amongst yourselves.

For whom should the bell toll tonight?

Tell us about it, blog readers. Who will sing their last song tonight?

Clearly from the comments on the performance blog posts, the preference is to say farewell to Jason Castro, who pretty much stunk up the joint last night. The Davids were both strong as usual, and Syesha may have won over some hearts with her emotional reaction after her second song.

Did I mention that Castro really blew it in a big, bad way?

I have liked that young man from the beginning, but what bugs me about his performance last night, other than it was dreadful, is the lack of effort.

I can respect it if he really doesn't care if he wins or not, but he should bring his best performance to the stage. Then if nobody digs it, he leaves the game knowing he did his best and was true to himself.

But I don't think that was the case last night. Where I could cut him slack in recent weeks for the theme being totally out of his element, he had literally thousands of choices this week, and he tanked it on two great songs. Sad.

Missing Top 10 a blessing in disguise

Just in case you're interested, here's my weekly "Idol" column as it appeared in the paper today. I tried not to overlap what I write on the blog with what I write in the column. At the end of the day, it's still "Idol" overkill, wouldn't you say? :-) Thanks for reading...

Quick thoughts on results show

Amanda didn't deserve it. Ramiele did.

Speaking of Ramiele, did y'all see her lip sync her way through group sing? Come on! Brooke White kind of gave her a look like "What in the world are you doing letting me carry you through this??"

I am an expert at lip-syncing because I used to do it in seventh-grade choir. I was designated a second soprano during our performance of "Mr. Sandman." I couldn't hit the notes properly so I just moved my lips the whole time instead. Sad, I know, but at least I wasn't on stage in front of 30 million viewers and competing to win a major competition.

A blubbering mess

I am not a fan of the results shows. For several reasons.

First, I can't stand to watch the contestants sing together. It always reminds me of the Brady Bunch clan singing "It's a Sunshine Day." Did you see just how miserable rocker nurse Amanda looked in that ridiculous outfit? I bet she was thinking twice about whether she really wants to win this thing or not. She looked like a ridiculous sell-out. Same with the Aussie hottie. Some of these people are too talented for that "High School Musical" junk.

Second, it's all about advertising. The show is an hour-long just for advertising reasons. So, unless you record it, it just all--out sucks to watch the whole thing.

Third, those girls crying. OK, are you for real? You barely know the folks who got kicked off and you're blubbering like you've been best friends forever. Aren't you happy they got kicked off? I'd be grinning from ear to ear, frankly. It's so summer camp-like. I'm sure they pledged to call each other every week, too. Yeah, that'll last.

Fourth, singing their finale songs. Of course they aren't going to be good. It's almost like punishment for these people. "Sorry that America didn't like you, but will you please sing your song again for 50 million people? And, um, try not to shake."

I agree with three of the four who got booted. Like I said in an earlier post, I don't think it was Colton's time to go yet. But, I didn't vote, so what can I say really....
