Really? It was David Cook?

I didn't believe it when David Cook won. Really didn't. I mean, he was my favorite, but I just didn't expect it. I was so ready for Archuleta to take it. In fact, I was almost glad DC was going to get second place. Second place may have been a better position because he'd be free to go and do his own thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he won. I feel more closure now. I don't feel as jaded. But I don't know what to do with that yet. :-)

David Cook won. Wow, y'all, it's over. Weirdly, last night while I was watching, I kind of got sad. You know that summer camp sadness you used to experience when you were young? You'd go to camp, meet great friends and then have to leave them a week or two later. It was always so traumatic on that last day. When they showed clips of the first auditions last night I kinda had that feeling. I know it's cheesy, so don't hold it against me. But if you think about it, we've been doing this since January. That's a heck of a long time to be committed to something like this. You guys have been great. I've had a blast doing this blog (most days, anyway).

Thanks so much for reading and supporting me and calling me out; that's the whole point of a blog. And I feel this one was successful because of the readers.

What next? For now, check back for my full analysis later this morning. It's for the newspaper, but I'll post it here, too.

No surprises: It's down to the Davids

Tonight was the last night for Syesha Mercado (I wrote this before I even heard the final results ... it's just a fact.)

Next week should be a real "humdinger." David vs. Goliath.

Carly gone? My confidence in America is way low

I've gotten too invested apparently. But I have not much to say right now. Even the folks who don't like Carly Smithson know that she's way more talented than Jason Castro. And Brooke White. And Syesha. The wind has left my sail. I'm glad I'm going to Europe for 2 weeks. More on that later. I'm sad. There went the talent.

OK, really? Carly in the bottom 2???

Jason Castro beat Carly? Really, America? Are you serious? This show is ridiculous.

Kristy Lee Cook gets the boot; the Davids dominate

Here's my latest "Idol" column. It's a musing on David Cook vs. David Archuleta.

See ya, Kristy Lee!

If Brooke White goes home, you might need a new blogger

I'm nervous. Totally nervous right now. What's going to happen? Brooke can't go home. No ... she will at some point, yes, but not over Kristy Lee! NO!!! Can you tell I'm in freak-out mode?

OH, sweet!!! I'm so totally relieved. For me -- and, yes, Brooke will go eventually (and soon) -- but I'm just not ready for that yet.

Guess y'all are still stuck with me!

(p.s. To the dude who bought Kristy Lee's horse: Give it up. Or at least wait until she cuts a CD and you can probably get more $$ for it.)

Of course David Archuleta will be tops

I'm a little stumped at who is in the top three and who's not with this weird split-stage maneuver. I guess we'll know as soon as Golden Boy David Archuleta is sent to one side or the other. At this point, my guess is the bottom three are on the right side of the stage ... with Carly and Syesha.

Michael Johns is gone. Happy, America?

michael_johns.jpg

Here's my latest "Idol" column, which will be published in Saturday's newspaper. It discusses my thoughts on Michael Johns getting the boot. Soooo shouldn't have happened.

No more Michael Johns??

America got it wrong voting off Michael Johns tonight! no, No, NO!!!! He is clearly better than Syesha, Jason Castro and Kristy Lee Cook. I kind of teared up on that one. At first I thought no one was getting kicked off; they tried to fool us, but then Ryan delivered the news. It made me angry. It was Syesha's time to go. He's so much better than some of the others.

That's my rant for tonight. More to come ...

Some thoughts on the bottom three

Here is the column I wrote for Friday's paper. It sums up a few thoughts about this week's show, specifically questions about the order in which participants are kicked off. I was really surprised when Brooke turned up in the bottom three. What about y'all?

Adios, Ramiele

It's time for Ramiele to pack up and hit the road. Tonight was the first night she was in the bottom three, but it shouldn't have been. Don't get me wrong, I think Ramiele has a lot of potential; her voice is great. In fact, I think she gave her best performance tonight of all nights b/c she finally had some emotion behind her voice. Still, move along....

Brooke White in the bottom three?? More on that later.

Take it easy, Chikezie

Tonight was Chikezie's night to go. I like Chikezie, but I didn't think he'd make it to the end. I don't think he even thought he'd make it to the end. He was always awaiting the bad news.

Well, take it easy, Chikezie. We'll see more of you, I hope.

I'm starting a movement

Similar to votefortheworst.com, I'm going to start votefortherockerchick.com. The rocker chick always gets booted. Perhaps her power is too threatening? I mean, look what happened to Madonna, right? Anyway, I'm saddened to see Amanda go home tonight, especially over Ramiele, who was lip synching during the group sing. Did y'all notice that?? Sad.

You had a good run, Amanda. And I'll remain a fan.

More to come later ...

L8r, stripper boy

David Hernandez said goodbye last night. I wasn't expecting it, frankly. He's much better, vocally, than Kristy Lee Cook. America loves her, though, apparently. His version of "I Saw Her Standing There" was cheesy at best, but it was no where near the slaughtered version of "Eight Days a Week" that Cook sang. Maybe reader Jen (too) is right on; she said maybe David got kicked off because of his now-tarnished image as a stripper. Who knows.

I just know that I can't stand the new big-box version "Idol." I mean, I was getting used to the product placement ... the Coca-Cola cups, the Ford intermissions ... but it's rising to a new level. Jim Carrey touting his movie? It's less a vehicle for talent, more a money-making machine like Wal-Mart.

Who's going next? Rant away!

America was wrong

My predictions were spot-on with the guys. Last night Jason Yeager and Robbie Carrico were kicked off. I was wrong when it came to the girls. I didn't expect Alexandrea to go. Did y'all? And what was up with that weird pause when Alaina Whittaker was booted? It was robbery for sure. Alaina is much better than Kady Malloy. Even Kady was surprised. It was clear that everyone thought America voted wrong on that one. Maybe people were just confused. I mean, Kady and Alaina do look alike. How can you really tell the difference?

Who's getting booted tonight?

I think it's going to be:

Jason Yeager (I hope!)
Robbie Carrico (rocker dude with long hair)
(It could either be Robbie or dreds guy Jason Castro, who the judges pretty much destroyed Tuesday night. I like him, though, so I hope he stays.)

Amanda Overmyer (regretfully, but she slaughtered that Kansas song)
Kady Malloy (who has no identity of her own whatsoever)

What do y'all think?

Been under the weather

Sorry I haven't posted anything about last night's show. I've been under the weather the past few days and am just coming around. I'll post my thoughts on it here shortly, but I will say that I didn't think Colton should've gotten kicked off yet. I think he was better than Jason Yeager, who sang that terribly boring (and cheesy) rendition of "Moon River."

More to come ... thanks for being patient. And thanks for your feedback!
