April 22, 2008Andrew Lloyd Webber bringing Broadway to 'Idol' stageTonight's "Idol" mentor is Andrew Lloyd Webber, the king of music theater. I'm actually looking forward to this one because I love Broadway. I think the standouts tonight will be David Archuleta (yes, I said it!) and Brooke White. I can totally see David A. singing something from "Cats." Dull. I did some reading, and according to Webber in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, "The girl who I was really quite impressed with was Brooke. She was really -- I got something out of her. I mean, whether or not, you know, that is there at the end, I really couldn't tell you." Yay, Brooke White! Should be an interesting night. I wonder how David Cook will fare? Maybe he'll do something funky with "The Music of the Night" from "The Phantom of the Opera." "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" would make a great final song for the person who gets voted off. More like "Don't Cry for Me, American Idol." April 15, 2008Mariah Carey the mentorMariah Carey is the mentor on "American Idol" tonight. I've never really been a Mariah Carey fan. But it's OK, right? We all have our own opinions. I like Madonna. Many of you probably don't. So I can take it. Therefore I will keep my comments to myself and admit that, yes, I know she recently surpassed Elvis in No. 1 hits. And she is talented. On the flip side (maybe just one comment), Elvis has been dead (or has he?) for a long time. March 31, 2008How will they do Dolly?
I'm trying to imagine how Tuesday night's show will go down with the participants singing Dolly Parton songs. I wonder who will sing "Islands in the Stream"? Or "9 to 5." Who will shake things up? Will Kristy Lee come out on top this week because this is more her genre? How will Michael Johns or David Cook pull off a Dolly song? Who will sing "Coat of Many Colors"? I have a lot of questions. I can't wait to see how it all pans out. For the record, I'm a big fan of Dolly Parton. Note: The Clark Brothers will perform Wednesday night on "Idol." The Clark bros. are from Franklin County. Here's a story we did on them when they won "The Next Great American Band." February 20, 2008Well hey thereHi there, American Idol junkies! I just figured I'd let you know that I'll be posting under the "Guest bloggers" category -- that way you can tell my posts apart from Wendy's. |
