A few final thoughts from your guest blogger

So, who do you think gets their dream smashed into a million pieces this week and who moves on to the finale? Hmm...

I know I said last week I was sure Syesha Mercado was on her way out, but that was before Jason Castro destroyed two perfectly good songs.

Can Mercado hold on one more week and displace one of the Davids?

Unlikely, but she's come this far, and with the right song, who knows? I was listening to my iPod in my office today and heard the late, great Eva Cassidy's version of "People Get Ready" and thought that would be a great arrangement for Syesha.

Do you ever do that? Hear a song and think, wow, I'll bet [insert name of favorite Idol contestant here] could bring down the house with that? Am I a real dork for admitting that I do that?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens Tuesday. All three contestants get to tour their hometowns this weekend, which sounds nice but I am sure is actually jam-packed with work and completely exhausting and distracting.

It's been a real pleasure blogging here this week, folks, but I must return to my dog blog now.

Wendy's back next week.

Peace out, readers!

My turn! Meet your guest blogger

Hello Idol fans!

nona_100x143.jpg

I am Nona Nelson, your humble guest blogger while Wendy wanders Europe. Our Ms. Maxey will return next week so, until then, I am honored to be your host here on Idol Times.

My only qualification for writing about “American Idol” is that I watch it. Like millions of other Americans, I tune in each week and see contestants struggle to pull a rabbit out of their musical hats so they can live to sing another week.

And each week, one more hopeful has his or her dreams crushed in the cold light of harsh reality television. We feel sad for a moment, but we Americans are a competitive bunch, goody bye, good luck, and its on to the next round.

Where's Wendy? Don't worry, you're in good hands

Hey readers,

If all went according to plan, I should be in Switzerland right now. It was time for a vacation. Even in the middle of the "American Idol" season. But, never fear. The blog is covered. This week, avid blog reader Amy Hanek is going to take over my role and contribute her thoughts on the show. So, look for her comments this week, and as always, post your own. Next week (I'll be back May 12), Nona Nelson of The Happy Wag, our pets blog, will man the ship. Amy and Nona watch "Idol" as much as the rest of us, so the blog will be in good hands.

Who's your favorite?

Ok, kids. This is my last post of the night.

Let's see if we can predict who gets voted off tomorrow night. Leave a comment saying either who you liked, or who you didn't like. Either way if we get enough comments, hopefully we can come up with a close prediction of tomorrow's vote.

Cool? Cool.

What's the deal?

Things I don't like:

- Why is Simon so nice? This is NOT what I signed up for!

- Why isn't Paula drunk anymore? (See above.)

- Temperatures over 90 degrees.

Ok, so that last one has nothing to do with anything. But why IS Simon so nice? I want him to be more... more... Simonesque.

Thoughts?

Syesha spells 'yes'

I daresay Simon has a crush on Syesha Mercado.

His smile appeared to reach from one end of the studio to the other.

"You've got it. You've got the whole package," he said.

I'm not so sure. Yes, she was good. But great?

Good singing, bad song

I don't like the song "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me".

Ramiele Malubay might have convinced me to change sides, though.

Her voice was steady throughout -- and she has an impressively big voice for such a small person.

Simon said, "...you out-sung every single person".

I don't know about that -- but she sure was good.

Epperson rocks it

Simon got it right this time when he said Asia'h Epperson's performance was his "favorite of the night".

She did a rendition of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart".

Asia'h is the 19-year-old whose father died in a car crash two days before her first audition, when she sang "How Do I Live".

I thought her performance tonight was great. Asia'h really let her emotions show.

What about you? Yeah -- you! What do you think?

Not so 'happy' this time

So I have really, really liked Brooke White in the past.

She's the 24-year-old who sang Carole King's "Beautiful" on the keyboard during Hollywood Week.

But tonight? She didn't really make it work with her rendition of "Happy Together".

Simon, though, had other problems with Brooke. Apparently he think she's too happy, and that irks him.

Too bad, Simon.

'You nailed it'

All three judges agreed: Alaina Whitaker, the 16-year-old from Tulsa, kicked butt.

Even Simon, who could be seen smiling throughout her performance of "I Love You More Today Than Yesterday" said, "I think you're very good...you are sailing through to the next round".

I completely agree. I think she made the song her own -- although I would have preferred she not start the song off so slow.

Oh well. Next, please!

Bad... really?

I actually liked Joanne Borgella's performance of "I Say A Little Prayer". Sure, it was a little rough at the end, but all in all I thought it was great.

Simon, however, thought it was horrible. What else is new?

Kristy needs to be rescued

Kristy Lee Cook, who sang "Rescue Me", deserves a pass. According to Ryan and Paula she has the flu, so I suppose she's not entirely at fault for her lackluster singing.

That being said, I agree with Randy and Simon: I don't think her performance was anything special. It was okay -- but certainly not great.

Well hey there

Hi there, American Idol junkies! I just figured I'd let you know that I'll be posting under the "Guest bloggers" category -- that way you can tell my posts apart from Wendy's.

Guest blogger No. 1

Our first guest blogger is Jordan Fifer. Jordan works with me and has been keeping up with the blog regularly. I'll admit, I'm feeling pretty under the weather today (even left work early) so I've asked Jordan to fill in for me tonight. He'll cover the ladies' auditions. Here's what Jordan has to say about himself:

I'm an online producer who only started watching "American Idol" to see Simon's insults. I enjoy Chinese food, but I don't have an exclusive relationship with it -- sometimes I eat Mexican. What else? I like to take naps -- but I prefer to call them "productivity sessions."

I'll try to throw in some comments tonight if I'm still awake after taking TheraFlu. As always, please comment away...
