Ryan Williams out for State game
BLACKSBURG — For the second straight week, Virginia Tech star tailback Ryan Williams will be resigned to watching his team play on television Saturday.
Williams won’t be making the trip Friday when the Hokies travel to Raleigh, N.C., for Saturday’s 3:30 p.m. contest with unbeaten North Carolina State. Williams, who is still troubled by a right hamstring injury, was officially declared as “out” for the game Thursday afternoon when the Hokies released their final injury report.
Williams hasn’t played since he was helped off the field in the second quarter of Tech’s 49-27 win over East Carolina on Sept. 18. He got some limited practice work this week, but, obviously, he’s still far short of being back to 100 percent.
Darren Evans and David Wilson will handle the majority of the Hokies’ running chores in Williams’ absence.
Eric Martin, the Hokies’ backup redshirt freshman tight end who injured his right knee earlier this week in practice, also is out for Saturday.
Senior fullback Josh Oglesby (ankle), who didn’t make the trip to BC, and starting free safety Eddie Whitley (stinger) each are listed as probable for Saturday.
