Random thoughts on UVa-North Carolina game
North Carolina became the first ACC team to score 70 points against Virginia this season when No. 5 North Carolina handed No. 19 Virginia a 70-52 setback Saturday at the Smith Center.
Seattle University remains the only team to have scored more thanĀ 70 against the Cavaliers, who prevailed 83-77 in that game.
Until Saturday, Virginia (now 19-5, 6-4 ACC) had not lost a game by more than three points all season. In fact, the combined margin for Virginia’s four losses was 10 points.
Mike Scott continued his fifth-year push, hitting nine of 17 shots for 18 points in 27 minutes. He picked up his second foul with 9:10 remaining in the first half and sat for the remainder of the first half, eventually finishing the game with three fouls.
Junior point guard Jontel Evans (12 points) kept Virginia in the game in the first half, but wings Joe Harris and Sammy Zeglinski were a combined 3-for-16 from the field. As a team, UVa was 3-of-16 on 3-pointers.
Zeglinski is 3-for-20 on 3-pointers over the last four games and is 1-for-19 on 3-pointers in UVa’s four ACC losses. He missed his first 14 before hitting on his second attempt Saturday, then missed his last five.
Virginia plays again Tuesday at Clemson, a team that played the Cavaliers to a four-point game in Charlottesville.

sadly, you can’t coach height (or depth, for that matter)…
not sure this one could have been avoided.
Sammy needs the confidence to come back SOON.
Not sure if Jesperson was ready this year or not, but he is a warm body that was badly needed now. I hope the experience he’s getting now makes him better later. I can see Mitchell playing with more confidence than he did last year. I think last year’s minutes helped him. Maybe the same will happen for Jesperson…
10-4

Joe Harris is a game time decision for the Clemson game. Oh sh*t! Somebody has got to step it up.
