Four-star recruit from Maryland commits to UVa

Note — Doug is taking some time off. Andy Bitter is keeping an eye on recruiting for him while he’s out.

Virginia added to its 2013 recruiting class Friday when cornerback Kirk Garner out of Our Lady of Good Counsel High in Maryland said he’d sign with the Cavaliers next February.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Garner is listed as a four-star prospect by Rivals and a three-star by 247 Sports.

He is the third player on UVa’s 2013 commitment list from Good Counsel, last year’s No. 1 Washington Metro program. Wide receiver Andre Levrone and quarterback Brendan Marshall are the other two.

Garner had offers from close to 20 schools, according to Rivals, including Florida State, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Purdue, Penn State and West Virginia.

Rivals lists him as the No. 9 player in Maryland and No. 27 cornerback nationally, while 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 11 player in Maryland.

Garner is the 13th commitment in Virginia’s 2013 class and the third cornerback, joining Richmond’s Tim Harris and Houston’s Hipolito Corporan.
