I’m told that the names, positions, heights and weights are close to what’s going to be handed out this weekend at the ACC Football Kickoff.
The only obvious omission is the walk-ons in the freshman class.
Here’s the link: http://www.virginiasports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/va-m-footbl-mtt.html
I’ve got UVa with 80 scholarship players, not counting walk-ons who may have received scholarships (Alec Vozenilek and Billy Skrobacz would be the first to come to mind, and then Ian Frye).
Justin Renfrow, in the mix for a defensive tackle spot at one point and a participant in spring practice, is not listed on the roster. He would have been a senior.
Another DT, Chris Brathwaite, is not in school but could return for a fifth year in 2014.
DE Diamonte Bailey, who would have been a redshirt sophomore, is another name who has dropped off the chart.
And then there’s signee Zach Jones, Perry Jones’ younger brother. Zach Jones isn’t on the roster and Fork Union coach John Shuman said last week that he hadn’t heard from him.
Tom O’Brien was right when he told me Virginia had only eight seniors and the number could be fewer than that. I count fifth-year seniors Luke Bowanko, Sean Cascararo, Tim Smith, Jake Snyder and Brent Urban. Fourth-year seniors will be Morgan Moses and Rijo Walker.
Throw in Skrobacz, who technically could be the starting fullback, and that would be eight.
