UPDATE: We’ve made a minor adjustment here and removed the link to the RCPS+ registration form. Schools officials have said forms are color coded by school and having a generic form here could create some hiccups. Forms have gone home with students but if you still need one school officials are advising to contact your student’s school.
But it’s actually been many months and details ago that Superintendent Rita Bishop initially broached the idea of extending learning for some students into the summer months and now registration for the new program has started.
Branded RCPS+, the summer offering is billed as enrichment — not the remedial summer school of years past.
In case you need a refresher, the Roanoke School Board approved and funded the program in February. It was first discussed at a city council meeting in January. Bishop has emphasized time and time again that the program is critical to student achievement.
RCPS+ is open to kindergarten through eighth grade students. It’s free and the school system will provide transportation. It’s not required, but officials have said some students will be encouraged to attend.
Registration forms (which again if you haven’t already gotten one can be obtained from schools) are due back to schools no later than April 26.
