If you’ve read the paper today, or spent any time in Roanoke City Public Schools central office, you know the system has some newbies.
In what was somewhat usual there were several high level vacancies within the school system this year and in recent weeks officials have filled those roles, though some still need formal board approval.
Most notably the division has a new assistant superintendent.
Matt Hurt is Roanoke’s new assistant superintendent for teaching and learning. He takes the place of Vella Wright, who recently retired.
Here’s a brief timeline of Hurt’s career in education.
2009-2013: Wise County Public Schools director of curriculum and instruction
2006-2009: Wise County Public Schools director of technology/testing
2002-2006: James Woodrow Adams Combined School assistant principal
2001-2002: James Woodrow Adams Combined School special education teacher
1997-2001: Powell Valley High School and Powell Valley Middle School special education teacher
So, what do you think of the new hires? Have you met them?
