Patrick Henry High School students got a powerful message on bullying from a guest speaker yesterday. And afterwards I talked with students who said bullying is an issue, in particular cyberbullying.
What was remarkable to me about the response from the P.H. kids I talked to was how quickly they pointed to online bullying when I asked him what kinds of bullying are a problem.
Confession: As a high schooler I had dial up Internet and a eventually a cell phone, not a smart phone, so no Twitter, texting, Facebook. It’s difficult for me to wrap my head around what it must be like for students (and their parents) today.
Is bullying in area schools an issue? If so what does it look like? Is it online? Or name calling in the halls? How did you deal with it? What could area schools do to get a better handle on bullying?
