New urgent care to open in Bonsack

A former Navy physician plans to open an urgent care center at Kroger Square at Bonsack to treat immediate medical needs that don’t require a trip to a hospital emergency room.

Dr. Rich Miller said he hopes UCare Health Center will be ready for business by July. Renovations are being done to the 1,800-square-foot space to create exam rooms, a space for x-rays and basic laboratory work, Miller said.

“This is intended to fill a void between very busy primary care and the ER,” Miller said.

He said he hopes to attract patients from the Bedford, Fincastle and Bonsack communities as well as working with workers compensation claims and the Virginia Department of Transportation to conduct needed physicals for commercial driver’s licenses.

No appointments will be necessary, and the center will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Miller said he is looking for a partner so he can eventually be open seven days a week and have extended hours until 8 p.m. on weekdays.

Where do you go to put in a job application? Sounds like a good idea, and will probably be pretty busy.

@Cindy Ward I’m not sure. I know Dr. Miller had already hired someone. I would suggest trying to reach out to him either at the store or through his website. Good luck.

I was a patient last Dec at Roanoke Memorial and your wife took very good care of me. We spoke of you and my son a Navy Doctor about to leave the Navy for Civilian life. She mentioned you were then looking for a partner. My son would love to speak with you. He is at Camp Lejeune at present until May or June. He has been Deployed 3 times. He did at Ent residency in San Diego and left half way through after 2 and a half years. Now thinking of ER residency.

How do we get in touch with Doctor Rich Miller?

@Susan D Turner. I’m sorry I do not. I didn’t realize until your comment that it appears the center is no longer open.
