In writing the new policy the Roanoke practice also has decided that it will no longer change the recommended vaccination schedule to fit the wishes of parents who want to space out vaccines.
“We are doing this for two reasons. First, we want to protect or patients,” Dr. Robert Gard, one of the practice’s pediatricians told me yesterday. “And also to let people know in the community as a whole how important this is and that it is a danger to our community not to vaccinate our children.”
The move raises two immediate questions for me:
1. Do you think other pediatricians in the region will follow this example?
2. What reaction do parents have to doctors taking this kind of stance?
