MedExpress continues to open new locations

MedExpress Urgent Care will open the doors on its Roanoke location today.

The West Virginia-based MedExpress has been part of an urgent care boom for the region as the company has quickly opened locations throughout the state, including clinics in Salem and Christiansburg. The newest center is at 4092 Electric Road.

MedExpress opened its first Virginia location in Bluefield earlier this year. Since, the company has also made its way into Charlottesville, Staunton, Harrisonburg and Lynchburg. And a second Lynchburg location will open next week and a location in Danville is scheduled to open in November, a spokeswoman said.

The Roanoke location will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. to treat patients for a variety of injuries and illnesses.

Earlier this year, LewisGale Regional Health System signed a collaborative agreement with MedExpress with the aim of feeding patients to both providers. In essence, LewisGale physicians suggest patients seek after-hours care at MedExpress and MedExpress refers patients for additional care to LewisGale specialists.

We visited a MedExpress for a sports physical recently. It was $20, which is less than what I would have been charged using my insurance and we were in and out in about 45 minutes. I was pleased with that!
