Tuesday: A day of voting (and flu shots)

Vote, get vaccinated.

That’s the latest get-out-the-vaccine plan from the health department to ward off the seasonal flu. Although, it is not a new plan, given “vaccinate and vote” has been a tool of public health for more than a decade.

On Tuesday,  the Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts will be at some polling places offering flu shots to citizens.

Here’s where they plan to be:

  • Patrick Henry High School: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Former Ruffner Middle School (3601 Ferncliff Ave. NW):  8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Northside High School: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Salem Civic Center: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Read Mountain Middle School: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Craig County High School: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Covington VFW (710 East Dolly Ann Drive): 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If your polling place isn’t on the list, and you still want a shot, here are some other ways to get it through the health department.

    Hi Sarah:

In October of 2011, this was the headline of one of your postings:

“Aetna-Carilion partnership launches first insurance offering”

This was to be some type of health insurance collaboration aimed at small businesses. Any additional information on whether or not this got off the ground? Thanks.

@Jp I haven’t discussed it with anyone since early spring, when there wasn’t much new to report about the product. I’ll make a couple of inquires. Thanks for the question.
