Trial begins for pain management doctor charged with illegal prescribing
Monday was the first day of what could be a long trial in the case of a New River Valley doctor charged with illegally prescribing drugs to her patients.
In opening statements to a jury in Roanoke’s federal court, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennie Waering described how Linda Sue Cheek prescribed drugs either without a valid DEA registration or by using that of another doctor.
Cheek did not accept insurance, charging her new patients $150 and then additional fees for up to a three-month supply of painkillers.
“That sounds like a drug dealer,” Waering said. “More drugs for more cash.”

OK. This sounds bad on its face. But we had a doctor right here in Roanoke who was trading drugs for sex. He eventually had his license restored.
It’s weird when you see people you know in articles like this.
Were the drugs homeopathic? It sounds kind of misleading. Were the “drugs” illegal or was she illegally prescribing to patients who did not need them for legitimate purposes? There is a huge difference.
Homeopathic medicine is a tricky business b/c of the FDA. Until it is deemed legitimate, the law will remain loopy when dealing with these incidences.
Has anybody seen the website this lady has put up?? She won’t take responsibility for her own actions. She knew full well what she was doing & wants to continue doing it. If they don’t put her in jail, she will find a way to keep prescribing.
