A doctor of a different sort has been making the rounds recently at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem.
There’s no “M.D.” at the end of Jon Bartlett’s name. But as the new CEO of the hospital and president of LewisGale Regional Health System, Bartlett has been checking the vital signs of an operation that includes four hospitals, more than 30 patient care centers and nearly 700 physicians.
Bartlett, 45, likes what he’s seen and heard so far in a series of get-to-know-you sessions with administrators, physicians, nurses and other staff.
HCA, the health care giant that owns LewisGale, hired Bartlett in October after a national search to replace Victor Giovanetti, who left to pursue professional opportunities in Nashville, Tenn.
Before arriving in Salem, Bartlett worked as the president of a six-hospital, 1,029-bed health care system in Phoenix. His background also includes administrative stints at hospitals in Arizona and Colorado.
Two weeks after starting his new job on Oct. 31, Bartlett sat down for an interview.
