Groova Scape

Recorded January 29, 2007

Producer Notes: Groova Scape is a perfect name for these guys, who seem to have the flow controlled by some sort of invisible switch; maybe even a lever. Whatever it was, they unleashed it upon the MusicCast and we couldn't be happier. Even though we couldn't let them groove all night, they laid down close to 20 minutes in just two songs. Definitely a band to watch - and by looking at their schedule, you'll have plenty of chances to catch them live.

Top 5 music videos this week on the MusicCast

Updated August 6: It's shake-up time. For weeks (eight of nine, in fact), The Seed claimed the top sot on our MusicCast. But, as their song says, "No More." Now it's more like a different No. 1 song every week. This week, "Demijohn" by the Pickin Buds out of Franklin County claims the crown, up from the fourth spot last week. "Demijohn" has been No. 1 before -- but then again, so have most of these songs at one point or another. So what will be the favorite music video on the MusicCast next week? You tell us.We base the MusicCast Top 5 on who gets the most plays -- so if there's someone you like, just keep on clicking.

If you think your band's video should be in the Top 5, well, post it to our site, and maybe it will be. Many of these are videos the artists shot themselves and sent in to us. Details are below.

Here’s the week's Top 5:

1. "Demijohn," by the Pickin Buds
2. "Burned Out Car" by Red Clay River
3. "Oxycontin Rock," by the Roanoke Allstars
4. "Can You Understand," by The Seed
5. "No More," by The Seed and "Blacksburg," by Mike Roos (tie)

Next update coming: August 13

Next band coming to the MusicCast: Maybe yours, if you submit a video.

What is the MusicCast?

The MusicCast is a video blog of local bands. We started in the fall of '06 bringing bands into our studio at The Roanoke Times. That proved popular with fans, not so much with our co-workers -- especially after one metal band brought in amps the size of a small house. We're told that things were rattling on desks on the second floor.

Now we're recording out of Jake Dempsey's Red Room Studio in Roanoke.

Along with the videos themselves, you'll find links to the band's website and MySpace profile. Click the MySpace profile link to see when the band is playing again and to contact them directly.

How do I navigate this site?

Below, you'll find an alphabetical list which contains all of the MusicCast videos. Don't know what you're looking for? Just click around until you find what you like - it's all here.

How do I upload my band's video?

Got questions? Got a request? Want to know how to get your band on the MusicCast? Contact music writer Tad Dickens or click here to upload your video(s).
