Court recesses because defense loses hotel roomsPosted Sep18, 2007 at 05:10 PMJudge Ray Grubbs dismissed the third jury panel at 5 p.m. today even though he had originally said he wanted to continue both sides' detailed questioning of the smaller sets of potential jurors. The decision came after defense attorney Tom Blaylock said the defense had a long drive ahead of them back to Roanoke. The reason for the journey: They weren't able to keep the hotel room they'd booked. Attorney Tony Anderson said the defense had reserved rooms at a Hampton Inn for the past two nights, but attendees to a Virginia Tech conference had snagged all the available rooms locally. After the judge's decision, prosecutor Brad Finch joked that he wanted to make certain the record reflected the Commonwealth's desire to keep working. Court will resume at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, when another day of jury selection is expected. Judge Grubbs dismissed the seven jurors seated today until 8:30 a.m. Thursday. He told them to expect a full day's work then. |

MikeWhat long drive???, Va Tech is not that far away, 45 minutes at the most, a cheap way to drag this out even longer than they need, he is guilty - end of story.
