Meet the newsroom: Reporter Tonia Moxley

Tonia Moxley

Tonia Moxley is based in our New River Valley bureau in Christiansburg  and she covers Virginia Tech and Radford Unversity.

Hometown: Galax  

College, major:  Virginia Tech, English  

Why journalism:  My singing career never took off, and my math skills were too weak to be an archaeologist.

Proudest journalism accomplishments:  Helping cover the April 16, 2007 shootings at Virginia Tech, my alma mater.  

Journalists you admire and why:   My co-workers, especially some of the younger ones. Their passion is infectious.

Favorite books:  ”Under the Tuscan Sun” by Frances Mayes; “Heat” by Bill Buford; the Harry Potter series; the James Harriot series; anything by Louise DeSalvo and right now, “At Home” by Bill Bryson.  

 Interests outside of work:  Home repair and improvement. Mostly repair, after my improvements.  

Interesting fact about you that few know: Yell at me all you want. I’m deaf in the left ear.

  2. re: V Tech trials – Will any journalist ever report on the connection between antidressant use (prescribed) and such random acts of violence? How about looking up the side effects of some common antidepressants and see for yourself? So when the next (God forbid) V Tech or Columbine happens, you too will say to yourself “Somewhere there’s a shrink laying low….”. These things didn’t happpen 50 years ago!

  3. Tonia, I work with a camp for children that have been burned. I read about the 13 year old from Haiti and wanted to find out if she is still in the area.
