BLACKSBURG -- The Blacksburg Master Chorale and Virginia Tech's Music Department have both hired Dwight Bigler as their choral director.
A native of Idaho, Bigler hadn't thought of coming to Virginia until he started looking for a long-term directing position while serving as interim director of Choral Activities at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

H1N1 flu vaccine clinics at Montgomery County's schools are on hold until the local health department can obtain more of the vaccine.
Interim Superintendent Walt Shannon said Monday that only three schools -- Margaret Beeks Elementary, Kipps Elementary and Christiansburg Elementary -- were able to give out the vaccine last week to students who got their parents' approval.

A Blacksburg police officer was charged this week with aggravated sexual battery, a felony, and misdemeanor domestic assault and battery.
Johnnie Lee Self Jr., 37, was arrested Tuesday by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and released on $100,000 bond the same day.
Radford teacher faces cocaine charges - roanoke.com
A Radford teacher who was charged last month with possession of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor is now also charged with felony possession of cocaine.
Lori Anne Jarvis, 43, was charged Sept. 3 after a juvenile suffered an apparent drug overdose at Jarvis' home, according to Radford city spokeswoman Becky Hawke.
