Goodlatte in charge of constitution-reading on Thursday
We’ve reported before about the Republican plan to read the U.S. Constitution to help kick off the House session — and the role Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, has played in that. (If you’ve missed it, here’s a link.)
Now, here’s the update. Politico reports in its daily Playbook on what to expect during the first two days of the session:
“The vote for Speaker will be early afternoon on Wednesday and will take some time because every member is recorded alphabetically by voice. Should wrap up by 2:30, at which time new Majority Leader Eric Cantor will call up the rules package, which will likely be voted upon later in the afternoon around 4 or 4:30. The reading of the Constitution will lead off Thursday’s floor schedule, and that will be run by Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.). That should be from 10:30 till about 12:30 or 1. Following that, the House will consider the self-imposed 5% budget cut on House budgets.”
