Goodlatte’s balanced budget amendment would make Ryan budget look modest, critics say
Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, gets a mention today in an opinion piece by Dana Milbank in The Washington Post.
Whether it’s a favorable mention or an unfavorable one will depend upon your point of view.
The way Milbank sees it, it’s unfavorable. His piece, entitled “Republican slash and spurn,” deals with a House committee Wednesday passing a proposed constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget. The prime architect of that is Goodlatte (we posted his release on the amendment here.)
Among other things, Milbank says the amendment “would force cuts that make Ryan’s look modest — the equivalent of an across-the-board reduction of 25 percent in everything the government does, from Social Security to national defense.”
He also says Goodlatte and other Republicans “laughed” a Democratic objections to the amendment.

May God Have Mercy! The halls of Congress and committee meetings now sound like a freaking blog discussion!
