Senate strikes one of two ultrasound bills
RICHMOND – The Virginia Senate this morning struck down one of two bills it is considering that would require a woman to have an ultrasound before having an abortion.
The Sen. Jill Holtzman Vogel, R-Fauquier County, made good on the pledge she made Wednesday on the Senate floor to ask that the bill be stricken.
“I would like to renew that motion,” she said today. The Senate agreed 31-2 with no debate to strike SB 484.
A second bill, HB462, which is identical to Vogel’s, is to be discussed this afternoon by the Senate, but likely won’t come up for a vote until Monday.
Vogel said she was troubled not only by a provision of the bill that would have required many women to have a probe inserted into their vaginas, but with the idea of the state requiring a woman to submit to any test.
At the request of Gov. Bob McDonnell, the requirement for a vaginal probe was removed from both bills.
“I have a lot of sensitivity to all those issues” being raised by opponents, Vogel said on Wednesday.
“I didn’t believe I could continue to carry the bill with all the current questions out there.”

First-trimester surgical abortion
◦Early terminations are performed with little cervical dilatation and using a hand-held syringe or a small-bore cannula (a tube) attached to a suction machine. Abortions performed with a syringe are referred to as manual aspirations (or menstrual extractions). Those performed with the suction generated by a vacuum aspirator are referred to as a vacuum aspiration. Both procedures take only a few minutes.
◦Tools are used to grasp the cervix after it has been prepared with Betadine and possibly numbed. The cannula is carefully inserted through the cervix into your uterus. The actual evacuation is performed by applying suction to the syringe or via the machine. The procedure takes a few minutes to complete. There is a small amount of blood loss.
Now THAT’S invasive

That’s 1 victory for the public. Looks like maybe the GOP walked up to the edge of insanity and decided to pull back.
Good stuff

Yea Cold n P — 50 million+ dead babies — probably 50% little girls who never got to exercise ANY of their God given rights. That’s something to be proud of.

Yes will, a nation with our history and a people with our news every day should really be “proud” of a lot of things. If anyone believes in God, an aborted fetus is a lot luckier than many children alive right this minute. You screaming “shame” is not working out for those “babies” either.
