Mudcat appears on “The Colbert Report”

Roanoke political consultant Dave “Mudcat” Saunders showed up on the “Colbert Report” last night to talk about the Republican primary race as it heads into the South. Along the way he references both of Virginia’s two U.S. senators, Mark Warner and Jim Webb, and even works in a couple of Lee Atwater mentions.

It’s too bad that Colbert was more interested in cartoonish lampoons than in substantive discussion. I’d have loved to see Mudcat on Jon Stewart’s show with an extended interview, seriously discussing the political landscape.

As for Mudcat, it’s too bad so many media talking heads can’t see beyond the stereotypes to understand his insight. Mudcat knows the deal.

But Colbert IS on Comedy Central and it IS a comedy show. I rarely expect a substantive interview on the Colbert Report.

Yet, somehow The Daily Show manages to hold intelligent discussion with a wide array of guests. I’s on in the 30 minutes immediately prior to the Colbert report. As for the Colbert Report being a comedy show – it is a satirical show. That makes it comedic, but not in the same vein as a sitcom or Fox & Friends.
