Santorum to stump for Romney Monday in Roanoke

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, who waged an unsuccessful bid for the presidency this year, will be in Roanoke, Franklin County and Martinsville on Monday to campaign for the man who beat him for the Republican nomination, Mitt Romney.

Santorum will visit the Roanoke Republican campaign headquarters at  2706 Ogden Road, SW, at 9:15 a.m., according to the Romney campaign. He’ll stop at Franklin County GOP headquarters at 400 Scruggs Road in Moneta at 10: 45 a.m. and Martinsville GOP headquarters at 2820 Greensboro Drive at 12:45 p.m.

Santorum is a social conservative who is well-known for his opposition to abortion rights and same-sex marriage. His trip to the region comes at a time when Romney’s campaign appears to be trying to defuse issues such as abortion and contraception in key battleground states. President Barack Obama has accused Romney of flip-flopping on the issue.  Obama’s campaign is running an ad  that includes a clip of  a 2007 debate in which Romney said he would “be delighted” to sign a bill imposing a federal ban on all abortions.

    You might have Romnesia if:

You said all theses things about Mitt Romney in the last nine months and now you’re coming to Va. to campaign for him.

I believe Santorum during the Republican candidates debate said that President Obama would be a better President than Romney

As an Obama supporte, this is great! Liaten to the extreme views on women’s health and other issues.

What a hypocrite. Even the Salt Lake Tribune said there were “too many Romneys” for them to endorse.

Such is the nature of politics. I remember Hillary and Barack saying some pretty nasty things about each other four years ago…doesn’t matter now, does it?

I’m sure Santorum will be working the crowd up into a frothy mixture!

    This is pretty hilarious.

As a conservative, Santorum scares the ever living daylights out of me. He is an extremist, not a limited government conservative. If he were, then he and other faux conservatives would understand that the government has no business in people’s personal lives or legislating religious viewpoints.

    The Other Rick,

You said it. Politicians from within their own party trash each other all the time to gain a step ahead of each other. Obama and Clinton said some very nasty things about each other when they were both trying to earn the DNC nomination. This is nothing new.

Yep, Bill is on record as saying Obama played the race card on Hillary; Hillary saying that Obama can’t pay for everything he was promising in 2008. Guess I have to give that one to Hillary.

The things Santorum has said over the years will always matter, and limit his field of influence accordingly. The insults to Romney are the least of it.

  13. Kathie | October 24, 2012 at 8:35 pm

So, Sandi. Your standards allow you to hold Santorum to ‘things [he] has said over the years will always matter’ but holding Obama to his promise that energy would ‘necessarily skyrocket’ should be dismissed.

I expect no less from you.

If read the information below, you will understand that the emails sent from our Consulate in Benghazi had started our military response, orders were given to stand down, our military leaders tried to help anyway, and they have now been fired by Obama, or someone just below him.

Context matters Kathie. I know that is beyond your ken, but it remains true.
