Which is the greater threat: Terrorists or a nuclear Iran?

Barack Obama

Mitt Romney

One of the clearest differences in the presidential debate Monday night came when each candidate was asked to identify the greatest foreign threat facing the United States.

President Obama said it was terrorism.

Governor Romney said it was a nuclear Iran.

So, who’s right? Or does it really matter, since presumably Romney thinks terrorism is a threat as well (just not as high) and Obama has already said he would take military action, if necessary, to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons (though Romney has said Obama has been too slow to deal with the threat.)

Terrorism is a current threat. A nuclear Iran is a strictly hypothetical one, and we now know that Iran is being crushed under Obama’s sanctions and their ability to develop their nuclear capacities are diminished.
I don’t see the point in ranking them when they both need to be addressed simultaneously…just because one might be less imminent doesn’t mean it gets ignored.

Why are we afraid of Iran when they haven’t attacked anyone in 200 years. We are worried about their single nuke when at the same time Israel has around 200 nukes and has attacked us before in 1967 on the USS Liberty. Let everyone defend their own country.

It is not an either/or proposition. They are one.

Iran is contained, where terrorists can be anywhere and everywhere, unfortunately.

World Policing is also a threat in itself. It can cause self destruction. We need to start minding our own business, focus on America, get out of the UN, and start letting other countries in the middle east work out their own discourse.

Terrorists. Iran is years away from having any kind of nuclear weapon. Terrorists are born every day.

How do you make a distinction between the two? There are nuclear weapons unaccounted for throughout the world. Terrorist with suitcase size nuclear weapon can do grave damage in small order. Damage not understood or known by the general public.

Speculation as to when Iran has a nuclear weapon is purely ill-founded logic. The weapon plus a rouge leader and delivery system could mean devastation for all. No one escapes a nuclear exchange? No one!!!!

Do some research and learn about the size of the atomic bomb(s) used in WWII. Then compare that level of destruction to the power of a thermonuclear devise of today’s technology. You might come to grasp the seriousness of this issue.

I have done some research, though granted, not at right wing media spin venues.

“Iran’s potential nuclear weapons capabilities are growing, but Iran could not yet break out without avoiding detection by the IAEA or the United States. Furthermore, the United States and its allies have the ability to respond quickly to any Iranian breakout.”

    http://isis-online.org/uploads/isis-reports/documents/Irans_Evolving_Breakout_Potential.pdf

Overestimating Iran and underestimating the United States and others in the region who have reason not to want a nuclear Iran, is just not smart.

For that rogue terrorist to get that suitcase and James Bond his way to activate it, is fantasy. Have a little faith in the US military, the IAEA and the interests of all involved to prevent WWIII. Worry that you can still buy enough fertilizer here to “McVeigh” a site.

Threatening war should not be a dilettante’s pastime!

How can we trust Mitt Romney if he can’t find Iran on a map?

  9. Marked Man | October 23, 2012 at 9:58 pm

How can we trust obama(‘s puppeteers) when they don’t know what state is Colorado on a map??

#9 Wow, MMM, even weaker than most of your efforts.

  11. Sandi Saunders | October 24, 2012 at 9:26 am

But are any of those “puppeteers” wanting to be President and claiming Colorado would go to war with Utah, Nevada and California for access to the sea?

  12. Marked Man | October 24, 2012 at 10:51 am

I doubt it Sandi, but then again, Iran isn’t part of the country they are currently (pulling the strings of the) president of…

You are right, gdad. The White House’s efforts on that map were a lot weaker than most of my efforts.

    Glad you agree.

    Oops… where’s Obama’s map of the 57 states? bahahhhaaaaa

  15. Jeffrey | October 24, 2012 at 3:41 pm

According to Michelle Obama, obesity, not terrorism, is the top threat to our national security.

  16. Kathie | October 24, 2012 at 8:48 pm

Yea, the kids love Mama Obama’s new laws for the lunch room.

Some are so impressed that they are now trying to apply her laws to bag lunches the kids bring from home.

Where does the nanny state end with this administration?

Wow, A sitting Virginia democrat congressman’s son advising how to cheat!! Busted!!! But we don’t need strict voter laws or enforcement of them..

@ 8 Everytime I hear a leftie talk about trusting Romney I replay the chain of events that transpired in Benghazi and wonder how any half-way intellegent person could still vote for Obama.

Starting on 9/12 – Jay Carney speaks for the president by saying the violence was a result of the youtube movie and Obama is at a Vegas fundraiser

That weekend Susan Rice is on the Sunday talk shows saying it was the movie

Obama and Hillary spend $70K to apologize on foreign TV shows for the movie

Joe Biden says during the VP debate – they were not made aware of anything – it was all contained at the State Department level

Obama says during the second debate (and Candy confirmed) he knew on day one it was a terrorist attack and said so on the Rose Garden lawn

Newly released information shows they ALL KNEW at the ONSET that it was AQ and a terriorist attack BUT it was more important for our POTUS to fly to Vegas for his own self interest than to try and save two people who were still alive when he made that decision – and who ultimately suffered through seven hours of violence before being murdered.

I wouldn’t trust this man to babysit my dog.
