3 p.m. Roanoke city turnout

We’ve got the 3 p.m. turnout figure for Roanoke city now: 40.8 percent. That compares to 46.4 percent in 2008.

Let’s look at the four biggest precincts, in terms of voter numbers, this morning:

* Washington Heights, with 4,110 voters: 37.0 percent, versus 39.1 percent in 2008.

* Peters Creek, with 4,021 voters: 32.6 percent, versus 51.5 percent in 2008.

* Tinker, with 3,470 voters: 37.6 percent, versus 39.7 percent in 2008.

* Lee-Hi, with 3,209 voters: 48.1 percent, versus 57.2 percent in 2008.

    Better than the 10 am numbers for Dem areas.. They must have gotten off work. If you dig in a bit the math would show around -2% in total votes for Obama vs ’08 IF the electorate votes the same way. Granted that a big assumption, but that’s what we got. Do we have a break down like the 10 O’clock numbers?

    @1 Keith F:

    I think Dwayne is writing the breakdown now.

    I’m wondering if we’re not seeing a lag this year — in D & R precincts alike — due to it taking longer for people through the lines. We’re seeing all these backed-up lines around the city, so I’m wondering if it’s just taking longer for voters to get to the actual voting machines.

    That’s pure speculation, but a discussion point perhaps.
