Perhaps we should change our name to the Red Ridge Caucus, because if you look at the maps of Virginia tonight, Western Virginia is color-coded a deep shade of Republican red.

The only localities in this end of the state to vote for Obama were cities:

* Roanoke (56%, with three strongly Democratic localities still out, so that percentage will likely increase some)
* Radford (50.6%)
* Covington (56.4%, with one precinct still out)
* Lexington (55.3%)
* Martinsville (61.4%)

Not every city, either.

*Lynchburg (52%), Salem (59%) and Buena Vista (62%) went for Romney.

We should note that Montgomery County, which went for Obama last time, flipped to Romney, though not by much. The final tally there showed Romney carrying the county by 103 votes, giving it the distinction of having the closest race in this part of the state.
