Goodlatte names new chief of staff and district director

Bob Goodlatte.
Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, announces some staff changes:
Congressman Bob Goodlatte released the following statement naming Pete Larkin of Roanoke as his new Chief of Staff and Debbie Garrett of Buena Vista as District Director. Both positions will be based out of the Sixth Congressional District. Shelley Husband, Congressman Goodlatte’s former Chief of Staff, was recently appointed to serve as Chief of Staff of the House Judiciary Committee where the Congressman now serves as Chairman:
“Pete and Debbie have served as trusted members of my staff for many years,” said Congressman Goodlatte. “They have worked diligently to provide quality constituent services and actively engage with constituents and communities across the District. Their contributions and devoted public service has been invaluable. I look forward to their leadership of my personal office operations in these new roles. I am confident that Pete and Debbie’s Virginia roots and past experiences will continue to be a great asset to my staff and the citizens of Virginia’s Sixth Congressional District.”
Pete Larkin – Chief of Staff
Pete joined Congressman Goodlatte’s staff as the Staunton District Representative and was subsequently promoted to serve as District Director. In that role, Pete oversaw all constituent service and outreach operations in the Sixth District and the Congressman’s District offices. Prior to joining Congressman Goodlatte’s staff, Pete was a reporter and news director for WKDW-AM/WSGM-FM in Staunton, helping the radio stations’ news department earn numerous Virginia Associated Press Broadcasters awards. He is a native of Mechanicsville and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Virginia Tech. Pete resides in Roanoke County with his wife, Susan, and son, Justin.
Debbie Garrett – District Director
Debbie has served as the Staunton District Representative for Congressman Goodlatte for the past five years. Prior to joining the Congressman’s staff, Debbie served as Legislative Aide to Delegate Ben Cline and as Constituent Services Director for former Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, Vance Wilkins. As a native and current resident of Buena Vista, Debbie has served on the Buena Vista City Council, including a term as Vice-Mayor. Additionally, she is a member of the Buena Vista Rotary Club. Debbie is a graduate of Parry McCluer High School and received her Bachelor of Arts in History from the College of William and Mary.

Goodlatte again demonstrates his desire to maintain status quo and not improve quality of life for residents of SW Virginia. His selection of old, familiar faces to serve as 6th District’s Chief of Staff and District Director demonstrates his lack of insight into the change necessary for SW Virginia to become competitive in a rapidly changing world. Goodlatte’s vision is myopic; reactionary; and he is well known as one of Boehner’s “Soldiers”. We need LEADERS in Washington and Goodlatte is NOT one. Our infrastructure is in need of repair, more emphasis needs to be placed on education and on-going job skills training (throughout one’s lifetime), and people need JOBS. The rich have gotten richer and the poor have gotten poorer while Goodlatte was in Congress and that is a fact. He is as ‘do nothing’ Representative as is in Washington. SW Virginia deserves much better representation than this GOP minion can deliver. If teachers get graded by their students’ test scores, why doesn’t congress get graded by their performance, as well? Goodlatte, simply fails and let’s replace him next election!
