Gun control group targets Roanoke with TV ad
A national gun control organization is targeting select media markets — including Roanoke — with a new television ad calling for federal action to reduce gun violence.
The ad is sponsored by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a national group headed by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg. It features Roxanna Green, whose 9-year-old daughter was killed in the 2011 shootings in Tucson, Ariz., that also left U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords critically wounded. The 30-second spot opens with a scene from last month’s mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., where 20 children and six adults were killed.
The ad will air on cable systems in the Washington, D.C. market and in targeted media markets where mass shootings have occurred. Those markets are Roanoke, Tucson, Denver, Colo., Waco, Tex., Binghamton, N.Y., and Milwaukee, Wis. The ad will air through Jan. 14.
“How many more children must die before Washington does something to end our gun violence problem?” Bloomberg said in a news release. “We need political leaders to hear Roxanna loud and clear: we cannot wait any longer for you to do something about gun violence. Another child should not have to die.”

LOL, they don’t know their audience. Send those ads out East or up North…people drive all the way from Roanoke to go shoot at the public range in B’burg. On a average day standing room only….just because there was a horrific and tragic shooting in B’burg doesn’t mean we want more gun control, rather the majority of SWVA would be for more guns.
We need more public gun ranges in our state, 100,000′s of rounds shot in B’burg, not one fatality (that I know of)……I guess some guns have a better temperament than others….
How about we get some really stories about the upcoming legislative session, like proposed gun control measures and public funded abortions? The quality of the reporting here has greatly diminished since part of the team left. There’s lots of stories to be had with this year’s upcoming local elections and House of delegate races.
sorry about my typos.
