There’s always some politicking when the General Assembly elects judges, but its selections for Roanoke’s 23rd Circuit aren’t hyper-political. Here are the picks.
David Carson, elected to the Circuit Court, is chairman of the city’s appointed School Board. Leisa Ciaffone, headed for the Juvenile & Domestic Relations District Court, has worked as a substitute judge there for some time.
According to the Virginia Public Access Project, neither is a player on the political money front.
Carson’s gave a total of $250 to two political candidates, but only picked one winner, Councilman David Trinkle in his 2006 race, for which Carson gave $100. He gave $150 to Mark Lucas’ unsuccessful bid to be the city;s mayor in 2012. Ciaffone gave $200 to Joseph Obenshain’s unsuccessful 2003 bid to succeed Malfourd “Bo” Trumbo in the state Senate.
