Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke County, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, is thinking of introducing reauthorization legislation for the Department of Justice.
In a recent chat, he said he was bugged about the department’s recent $165 million purchase of a prison from the State of Illinois that’s never yet been used, as well as huge overlapping in the department’s grant-making programs.
Some of that is because programs, once started, often aren’t re-examined by Congress, he said.
That’s the purpose of reauthorization legislation.
The Department of Justice was last reauthorized in 2006.
