Roanoke City Councilman David Trinkle will formally announce his candidacy for the 11th District House of Delegates seat this morning, putting him in a crowded contest for the seat being vacated by Roanoke Democrat Onzlee Ware.
Trinkle will announce his candidacy in an 11:30 a.m. news conference at the entrance to the Elmwood Park amphitheater on Williamson Road.
Councilman Court Rosen, formal mayoral and congressional candidate Sam Rasoul, and first-time candidates Trish White-Boyd and Keith Wheaton already have announced their bids for the Democratic nomination. The city’s Democratic committee will meet Thursday to decide the nominating process. Most of the candidates have said they favor a firehouse primary.
Roanoke Sheriff Octavia Johnson, a Republican who was voted out of office two weeks ago, also will run for the House seat. A special election date has not been set.
